TR: Tour de Bronx

I did a 40-mile Bronx bike tour this weekend. Including the rides to/from the start/finish, it was about 55 miles of riding. The weather was great -- a little chilly, but nice once you got riding. Yay fall!

Here's the route:

Early in the route we rode on a section of closed highway, which was pretty neat:

Then through a lot of nice greenways that I'd never been to before:

Note: still almost no fall colors! Fall foliage, where are you?? Is it always this late down here and I've just never been paying attention?

Then over to City Island and Orchard Beach, two very pretty places I had also never been:

After that was 5ish miles of the hilliest riding I've ever done. Who knew the Bronx was so hilly? I'm sure it wasn't much by the standards of you ladies who ride out west, but MAN. I'm going to poke around a bit later and see if I can find some elevations for the areas we rode through. It wasn't even that any particular hill was so terrible, but they just KEPT COMING, and this was on miles 35-40+ of a 40ish mile ride. Why would you put all the hills at the end of the ride? Not cool, Tour de Bronx planners. ;)

Then we were done! Yay!

Overall a really nice day of riding.

That's VERY cool. Not a way I have ever seen the Bronx. And it looks like a lovely day to cycle as well!

I love sight seeing on my bike. I see things that I never realized were there even though I've driven by a thousand times. Sounds like it was a great ride. Funny to see bike TR and ski TR from the same day. :D

As someone who was born and raised in the Bronx, your TR brings back memories.

Thanks so much for sharing.
