Had a great day at Stratton with my DH today. It was qualifying finals for the men's pipe at the US Open Snowboarding event, so we checked it out for awhile. Many adorable young men with lively outfits and goggles doing amazing things in the air. Ski conditions around the mountain were surprisingly good. Machine groomed packed powder, definately carveable, only a few cookies here and there, and not icy at all. Sunshine, mild temps, and lots of fun.
Today, I decided to ski my Auras since I only tried them once, briefly, after purchasing them a month ago. I want to use them as an all mountain ski so I wanted to see how they would perform on hardpack.
ZOOOOM is all I can say. I ripped. I have never skied so fast without effort. The bindings let me really feel the snow, and with a small adjustment of pressure, edge, or foot movement, I had total control with this ski. Didn't encounter too much ice, but they had no problem with hardpack, loose granular, etc. I've already demod them in deep, soft crud and bumps at Big Sky, and we all know they excel in pow. What I also learned today is that they give me a lot of confidence to take air because they are so stable and wide. I had no problem skiing them flat when needed, putting them on edge was a cinch, they turn 360s on the snow beautifully, and ski switch like a twin tip. They are also considered to be a park and pipe ski, so I think I've found my 1-ski quiver. I'll still use my Mynx skis to really learn the features in the park and my Volkl Attiva AC2s for my smaller, local mountain and for early season and slower days. My Scarlets rock in soft bumps, but I probably won't bring them out West next Winter and will just ski my Auras. Anyway, I was totally sold on them and am so glad I purchased them.
Today was one of those days when my skills that I've been learning and working on this season and my equipment totally clicked, and I tore up the mountain!
Here's a pic that DH took before we left. That's his snowboard in the background. Poor guy, I left him the dust in these skis! Ski Diva, I'm going to finally be able to keep up with you
