Went for an excellent bike ride today. Pictures to come.
I did the Richard's Hollow ride near to Logan, UT. A little over 9 miles and 2050 vertical climbing. The first 7 miles are pretty mild, and mostly middle chain ring climbing. The last 2 miles were brutal for me, and halfway up my legs stared to feel like jelly. The last two miles climb just about 900 feet.
Then the fun part! Downhill! All that climbing HAS to have some reward. The downhill is mostlly smooth and flow-y, with quite a few really tricky technica sections - definitely above my ability level for now. The last two miles drop about 500 vertical per mile.
There were about 6 stream crossings, which were a ton of fun! It was my first time navigating stream crossings succesfully, so it was definitely a good start to the downhill section. At about mile 3 of the downhill, I hit a rock funny and flipped over a low flat-faced boulder on the side of the trail (the boulder was not the rock I hit). So I flipped over the boulder, slid down the ravine and cracked my helmet on some logs that were in the river bed. Its one of those moments when the whole fall was in slow motion, and I remember thinking as I saw the logs, Oh **************** I am going to hit my head on those logs. Also one of those moments where I am soooo glad I had the helmet. There is a pretty good crack in it all the way through, so I guess it is off to the bike store this week. Other than a killer headache, and a few bruises and scratches, I am thankfully OK.
I was really skittish after that and missed trying some of the more techie sections - but there is always next time.
