TR: Richards Hollow

Went for an excellent bike ride today. Pictures to come.

I did the Richard's Hollow ride near to Logan, UT. A little over 9 miles and 2050 vertical climbing. The first 7 miles are pretty mild, and mostly middle chain ring climbing. The last 2 miles were brutal for me, and halfway up my legs stared to feel like jelly. The last two miles climb just about 900 feet.

Then the fun part! Downhill! All that climbing HAS to have some reward. The downhill is mostlly smooth and flow-y, with quite a few really tricky technica sections - definitely above my ability level for now. The last two miles drop about 500 vertical per mile.

There were about 6 stream crossings, which were a ton of fun! It was my first time navigating stream crossings succesfully, so it was definitely a good start to the downhill section. At about mile 3 of the downhill, I hit a rock funny and flipped over a low flat-faced boulder on the side of the trail (the boulder was not the rock I hit). So I flipped over the boulder, slid down the ravine and cracked my helmet on some logs that were in the river bed. Its one of those moments when the whole fall was in slow motion, and I remember thinking as I saw the logs, Oh **************** I am going to hit my head on those logs. Also one of those moments where I am soooo glad I had the helmet. There is a pretty good crack in it all the way through, so I guess it is off to the bike store this week. Other than a killer headache, and a few bruises and scratches, I am thankfully OK.

I was really skittish after that and missed trying some of the more techie sections - but there is always next time.

Wow, Sheena, I'm so glad you're okay and was wearing a helmet. But, the rest of the ride sounds incredible. Can't wait to see photos.

Holy smokes! I was not expecting the fall from reading the first half of your TR! Way to end it with a twist, chica!

Glad you are mostly okay. Please keep watch for signs of a concussion.

Wow Sheena!
Many things come to mind;
Glad you're okay!
You are one tough rider!
How on earth did you come out of it unscathed?
From someone who is finally getting downhill, never having done stream crossings, Wow, just wow!!!
You rock!

Nice work! That climb sounds like no easy task.

And I'm glad you're alright after your fall - that sounds like a rough one!

The climb nearly killed me! Thankfully Tim was patient with my slow grinding pace uphill! I just need to go out and make myself practice trails and fire roads with a pretty constant uphill.

I have to say again, that I am so glad I had a helmet, not that I would ride any trail with out it. But I did manage to also crack the log - I am assuming that the log was older and dry - I can't imagine I hit it that hard. I did have a killer headache afterwards though, so who knows.
