TR - October? No way!

What does October mean to you? I've always thought of leaves changing, crisp nights, shortening days, and Halloween. I don't think I've ever thought of skiing powder when I think of October.

I guess I need to change the way I think about October.

Poor saps riding the Snowbird tram for "scenic purposes" this morning. We waved at them as we headed up for another lap.

Heading up to the Cirque. Come on guys - only 1000 vertical feet left to go....

I guess the scenery was OK.

Looking down at my last run of the day. Dang it - maybe I should have stayed home and baked cookies instead...

Chris was really concerned about problems in the Middle East and whether Lindsay Lohan really did recover in rehab.

Hey guys, do you realize it's only October 21st?

No seriously, it really sucked.

14" of new snow, a group of great friends, blue sky, and sunshine.

And it's only October.

Ohhhhhh, baby.

You so deserve that mug! :becky:

I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said we were all jealous.

Yeah, right, go ahead and rub it in!

But seriously, it's great stuff! Who needs ski resort that aren't open when there's tons of snow anyway! Freedom of the backcountry, for those who're willing to sweat it up. Good for you.

Yep, looks like you had a lousy day! :snow:

Beautiful pics, there. So how many runs do you get in when you have to hike for them all??

I was happy to see a few snow flurries around the house today-- not bad for north-central New Mexico!

OMG - I am sooooooo jealous. I just opened the box today with all the gloves etc to see what I owned. And you're out there ripping it up!! It's 70 deg today so it's going to be awhile till we see snow here in the east. So I have to live it through your pics. Oh - Lindsay's out of rehab???
Great pics gal!

We started hiking around 8:00 and finished off lap three around 11:00. It's definitely 90% hiking, 10% skiing. But, at least in my opinion, it's totally worth it. :D

Oh - Lindsay's out of rehab???

Uh, I guess you hit on one of guilty pleasures...trashy Hollywood gossip. And yes, she's out of rehab.

Am I the only one who's first thought was to tackle tradygirl? :p

Seriously though, it looks amazing! I realized there was snow, but wow. It was 80 degrees today here. Glad you got out there, and those pics are great.

Way cool photos. You look so happy and pretty in the photo and it looks like you used a photo for your new Avatar. Way to start the season!

I admire your stamina to hike for those runs.... Keep on skiing and posting -- the better the snowpack gets in SLC and the Rockies, the closer the Northeast is to receiving snow. I even saw a mixed snow/rain forecast on my local 15 day weather forecast!

Usually the snow is almost non-existent in October. :p Really, it was classic Utah powder. I couldn't believe how great it was.

I can't believe this either. One of my friends that skied with me that day just sent me this link.

They must have been filming from the tram that day. And that's definitely my friend skiing about 57 seconds in (white helmet).

HA! Someone just sent me that link, and I was just about to post it here to ask if you were in it!

WOW

I'm going to either:
A) go ride my bike 50km tomorrow and pretend I am doing a run as I go by our ski hill - which is no doubt still hosting the cattle that roam there all summer.
b) get my new ski's mounted in hopes that it will snow rather than rain for the next 3 months here in the land of snow that they call Canada... while I am wearing shorts and T.

Wow - THAT is amazing - simply amazing! Do a run for me the next time you are out!

tradygirl & other Utah locals - Do you think this October snow will stick around and translate into a good early season out there? The early season deals look pretty good, and if we can find some cheap airfare it might be worth doing a 3-day weekend or something early-mid December.

It always feels like it take *forever* for the season to really get going in the east (at least in the southern part of NE where we generally ski) -- I want to ski NOW. ;)
