I once attended a masters' (read: us old farts) camp for a week on Mt. Hood the last week in August. Once you got over the surreal experience of riding the lift over nothing but rocks, the snow was actually surprisingly good until you quit from trashed legs at 1 p.m. Each afternoon we did something different--wind surfing on the Columbia River, white watering on the Deschutes River, rock climbing (thanks to this I am now able to change a ceiling lightbulb without fear), mountain biking, water skiing, etc.--it was a fabulous week, one of the best vacations I've ever had. Oh yeah, I think I had room #5--"tiny" is an understatement!!

Being from Oregon, I am so thankful for the incredible beauty and diversity it offers. But, Powderqueen, I'm glad you enjoyed it, but please keep it to yourself--we don't want the state over-run by fun-worshippers!

Quiver Queen,

I can understand your selfishness with your beautiful state! I met plenty of transplants there, and now I am considering my retirement there. Since we have family (grandchildren!!) and friends in the Portland area, I can easily see us summering in Oregon and wintering in Utah. That would be the most ideal situation. I retire in 11 years, so it is already in the planning stages.

My windsurfing is getting much better (not bad for an old lady) and I hope to get back into whitewater kayaking soon. Here in central upstate NY the windsurfing is a lot like the skiing...close and convenient, but nothing special. In 11 years I expect to be quite ready to enjoy summers in the PNW!! I expect to visit a few times before then as well.

We got frost here last night! Winter is just aruond the corner.
