Ski Diva Extraordinaire
Yup. Neither the first time (nor the last we ski here) but it's getting more and more fun. the 8-10" of powder that came down Friday/Friday night made for absolutely epic conditions on Saturday, but it was soooooooo bitter with the wind. We had a mandatory thaw break! Today was much nicer weather-wise - warmer (upper 30s) and the wind was gone - but the sweet sweet western sugar powder was gone. Have some pics from today - DH and I decided to try out the cam today - wanted it yesterday but knew that we'd be asking for frostbite so it stayed back in the hotel room! I will post a few later.
The results of the picts - well I did not actually yard sale when the camera was on, although I did give it a try in the woods! I found out that I don't look all *that* bad when skiing and honestly today I wasn't in nearly as much of a groove as I think I was yesterday - at least not during the photographed runs! But I guess you can all critique the pics that I post after they are uploaded!
So yes we've continued to play in the trees and I continue to get more comfy in them. After last week I figured we were done for the year but the freshies made them absolutly irresistable yesterday. We did laps through on of the glades (extra benefit was being *mostly* out of the wind) until we both needed to go in and warm our fingers and toes. Also explored a bit of new terrain. DH took a nasty spill before we went in the trees for the first time and I was worried our day might end really early, but he dusted off and kept going - for reference DH has a very very bad knee and wears a brace when skiing, but even so that can only protect against so much, so it was very scarey when I watched him fall in front of me - about 30 feet or so! I'm getting more and more comfy in the glades each time but looking at the forecasts I can confidently say I think we're done for the year now. I'm also getting more comfy in powder and yes I can actually call this stuff powder- it was soooo dry and fluffy. Definitely a ton of fun to ski in. However the deeper it's piled definitely requires a bit different technique, even 8-10". However I'm looking forward to trying some more out west at some point! Overall a really great day yesterday.
Today was more playing in the groomed stuff (the powder was all groomed in) and enjoy the warm springlike weather - both days were bluebird! We did one run through the trees - they were much more mashed potatoey powder today and more of the under ice was exposed. I was skiing it well other than my lovely camera shot - I did not fall but I definitely was akward and ugly. DH happily informed me that had I fallen he would not have been able to get a picture of the actual fall but would not have missed out on photographic evidence of my aftermath! However seeing as the ice was getting more exposed and we were both a bit tired we decided to take it easy and stick with the groomed stuff. Spent a lot of time working on just carving on the beautiful groomed stuff. I just LOVE the *pop* out of turns I get from my AC3s.
In other stuff it was gaper-ville on the mountain this weekend. The mountain was no more crowded than normal but the number of clue-less folk was insane. Mmmmm skiing in jeans and 80s apparel!
Also the words "f*cking snowboarder!" crossed my lips more times than normal
Oh well...
So there will be pics sometime tomorrow!
(for reference this was day #11 and 12 on the season for us)
