Too many skis??????

Had anyone asked me yesterday (or even this morning) if you can have too many skis, I would have said "of course not silly, there's no such thing as too many skis".

As of 6:30 tonight, I'm revising my answer to that question. Not only is it possible to have too many skis, we actually do. :faint:

After skiing for a couple of hours this morning, I intended to do a little minor maintenance on our ski quivers. Instead, I spent 5 1/2 hours on our skis. My hands, arm, shoulders, and neck are just screaming. Here's what took 5 1/2 hours:

Edge and Binding work:
1 pair 724 Gamma
Sharpen, Deburr, Polish, Wax, Scrape, Brush, Polish:
2 pairs Karmas
3 pairs GS
1 pairs SL
2 pairs 6*s
That's 18 single skis!!!!

And here's what I didn't touch:
2 pair GS
2 pair SL
1 pair 724 Pro
That's another 10 skis that still need to be tuned and waxed for summer storage.:frusty:
And that's not even counting the 3 pairs of blades and 3 snowboards that also need to be tuned and waxed, or the 2 pair of Downhill skis that I did last week.

Yup, we have too many skis.

You do not have too many pairs. You just need to start using them as wall art!

Poor SnowHot (I said as I retrieve world's smallest violin from storage case).....ah, but we do get what we deserve??? Yep, they're work. Reminds me of someone complaining about how much work their yacht is with all the brass polishing and teak refinishing  - so what heads west with you next trip?

I'm well on my way to creating a park bench w/ours. Ever see those? Way cool.

Those are amazing. I would have to use snowboards for one though. I would want to look at the skis too much to ever sit on a bench made of skis. I want to find some old wooden ones at Goodwill and tack them up on my wall. =)

Not ours, this is at Sugarloaf, but DH observes construction methods for ideas:

That one piece on the side that says "Course?" We actually have a pair of those in our garage. And who knows what else...sometimes they go obsolete before we can sell them (due to the fact that we buy new/old stock anyway). Bench Time. Stay tuned. Might get it built this summer.

HAHAHA!
Volklgirl and I DO live close to each other, and we DO tend to be gear ho's, and I WILL admit to taking a long time to wax and tune my skis, but Volklgirl has more than I do at the moment.
I have not taken up blades, or boards. Whew!!!
I have two mt bikes, while VG has, well, I'm not sure, but I think she has 4 or 5 bikes.

You keep waxing K, and when you get close to being done, let me know and I'll bring mine over.:becky:

I've got a bench. Slightly different. Skis go across horizontally on the back. I'll find that pic somewhere. Right now its under snow. I still like the headboard - was it Lilgeorg??

I'll get right on that.:laughter: You know I'll end up with Mom and Janny's when they get back from out west. Sigh.

I cannot wait for the day when the place I live is big enough to hold enough skis to build a bench. ;)

P.S. You don't have too many skis.

And for those of you who don't have enough skis to make a chair or bench, here's a link where you can buy them (snowboard furniture too!).

One of my great skiing instructor friends likens skis to sweaters - you just try them on and see what fits :becky: I am lucky where I ski I have a season locker at the base of the mountain and I can switch out what ski I want to use depending on the conditions. The technology changes so quckly now, it is hard to limit yourself (not to mention it is so tempting!!!) If you can find someone to trust to out source your maintenance...that I think would be perfect :ski2:

Never!

You can't have to many skis! My family has around 30 pairs and next year we are getting 2 or 3 more pairs (Volkl Racetigers! and a pair for freeskiing).

So, 3 years later I've done a recount during our recent move :fear:

Me: 1 pr DH race, 2 prs GS race, 2 prs SL race, 1 pr carver, 1 pr all-mountain, 2 pr mid-fat twins, 2 pr fat, 1 pr fatter, 1 pr super-fat. 2 prs carbon poles, 1 pr GS/DH race poles, 1 pr SL race poles.

DH: 1 pr DH race, 2 prs GS race, 1 pr SL race, 1 pr carver, 1 pr all-mountain, 1 pr mid-fat twin, 2 pr fat, 1 pr fatter. 3 pr carbon poles, 1 pr GS/DH race poles.

That's 23 pairs of skis and 8 pairs of poles, in use, for just the 2 of us.:faint::jaw:

And the current bike counts is (his and hers): 2 full suspension, 2 hard tails, 2 29ers, 2 single speeds, 2 road bikes, and my summer project full suspension from last year.....that's 11.

And I wonder why we're always broke???????:help:

You need to add some of those itty bitty short skis to your collection!!!!
How many different pairs of boots do the two of you have?

volklgirl

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
We did sell one pair of snowblades, so we're down to 2 prs of those (not included in the ski count, nor are the 3 snowboards).

Boots....Hmmmmmm.
I have my Banshees and my retired WC 100s that I'm keeping for back ups, JIC. Then I have 2 older pair of Salomons that I just haven't gotten around to selling (I store them in the shed and use them to set bindings as the BSL is still the same).

He has 1 pr of Dobermann 150s, a pr of 130s, 2 pr of 100s, and an old pr of Rossis.

Sounds like your garage/workshop/storage area would need to be bigger than your living space! Especially since with all that equipment you probably don't spend too much time inside, LOL...

Here's what I'm picturing: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and couch with an older tv you probably never watch - along with a vast, brightly lit, climate controlled space for bikes and skis with the latest in storage racks and tools for maintenance and also maybe a high-end security system! Oh yeah, and maybe a large space to drip dry what is probably a lot of specialized laundry (race outfits and such, and biking lycra).

Okay, my imagination is running amok. I don't know why that picture popped into my head but it made me laugh aloud so I thought I'd share...
:laughter:
