thoughts? Salomon s/max no12 ski vs Atomic Cloud Q11

Hi Divas,

I'm looking to get some new skis and I know the best way to find the best new pair is to demo them. Sadly, I've been considering new skis for 3 years and haven't had any luck getting to demo skis. So it looks like I'm going to buy off the rack. I'm from Eastern Ontario so I ski a lot of ice but also late day crud. Also "coach" (ie. supervise) the high school ski team where I teach. So most of my skiing is at practices and race days with the high school. I'm an advanced skier but not as strong as I used to be. I like a shorter turn radius ski. Someone suggested to me Atomic cloud Q11, but just found a stellar deal on a pair of lady's Salomon S/Max no 12. My old skis are Salomon X-Wings 10 and I really liked those but they are many years old now. Any thoughts on either of these? Should I look for something different? I always appreciate the advice of the group here.

I think the S/max 12 are possibly the top end in terms of being more demanding/high performance piste slis whereas I think the Q11 is one back (top is Q14).

So, for MSM, Camp Fortune, Edelweiss or Calabogie....the Salomon. I've a friend on the men's version and loves it for Blue Mountain. Race coach needs tuned down race skis!!

BTW - I ski the Rossi Hero St Ti, for the same reasons. Eastern hardpack.

I've demo'd both of those skis. Between the two the S/max is a bit more ski. If you want a more from the Cloud line up then go with the Cloud Q12 or Cloud Q14.

I really liked the S/max for a ripping groomer ski.

@EShef - I've seen demo's this season already at Camp Fortune and Calabogie. Keep an eye on Kunstadt's FB page.

Yes, I’ve been checking out Kundstat’s for the demo days but they just had Elan demos.
And I meant to say the atomic Q 12 that was recommended to me not the Q11s but it seems the 11s are what are in the store. No one locally has the 12s in stock in my size that I’ve found so far.
$500 for the Salomon’s though! 50% off. It may be a little too much ski for me but might be worth a try.
And yes, Calabogie is my hill Jilly.
