Those Burton Boards

I was skiing recently on a cold, windy day. The crowds were avoiding the chair lifts in favor of the gondola so the lines were rather long. I started looking at the graphics on the ski boards. During the day I probably saw about 70-75 snow boards. Only one had some offensive graphics with scantly clad females. Is the tide changing? Have the protests been heard about those offensive Burton Boards or was I just seeing a more refined segment of boarders? I have continued to notice boards and it looks to this one observer that perhaps there is a change in the graphics.

FWIW, I saw my first one up close and personal last weekend. I was asking the guy about his bindings, as I'd gotten some for DS for xmas and was curious about his. It really took me a couple of minutes to figure out that it was one of those boards, and all that was visible between the bindings was her wildly well-toned abs and navel, very pretty blonde hair and face. It really didn't jump out and scream "PORNO!" I was surprised that it took me so long to figure it out.

Could live w/o it, but I've frankly seen worse graphics, even on some of the twin-tip/freestyle skis.

I think at least a few resorts have banned them, which might be why we see less of them. At least they're a good weed-out mechanism; i.e. if a dude has a board like that, I know I don't need to talk to him. Kind of like those guys with the naked lady cutouts on their trucks.

Several mountains have taken a stand on the Burton boards but they can't ban what people use. They have banned their instructors from using them while working. If a ski board instructor has an offensive board they can not use it while they are working. On their own time they can do what they want.
I think it is a great stand by the mountains that chose to stand up. In the east I know that both Killington and Okemo have a policy where instructors can't use the boards while teaching. Probably a lot more have adopted that policy and perhaps we should let those mountains know that we approve and appreciate their policy.

Of course they can ban them! Ski resorts are usually privately owned and they can put whatever rules into place they care to enforce. Since families are usually a big target audience, I think it would not take much for the resorts to sit up and take notice if these boards became commonplace and patrons started complaining.

I haven't seen the Burton Boards yet, but I have seen a provocative pair of skis. The woman is "divided" between the two skis, but if you put them together, it's one picture. She has on a crochet bikini top. It was a teenager who had them. I felt like slapping his head and asking if his mom knew he has those skis!!
