Things the pets drag in...

Ok, let me start by saying I really love most critters. I am a cat owner (3) and would likely have a dog if I weren't too lazy to walk one every day. So of my 3 cats, 2 are declawed males (they came to us this way from others) and one is a female kitten. The cats are really indoor pets, but the boys have decided they really like to go out during the nice weather for a stroll. So, even though they have no claws, we reluctantly let them go for their little adventures -- we aren't near busy streets, but we are near woods and creatures (inc. bears) that could be trouble for dopey inside cats.

So today I let the 20lb declawed Eli go out. Within 2 minutes, the kitten is at the front window mesmerized. I look out and Big E has caught a 3 foot ribbon snake and is bringing his prize home! Yuck, Yuck, Yuck! I yell at him to drop it which he does and then get the cat in the house. The snake stays frozen when I try to get him to move along. When I get the shovel to take the snake for a walk he decides it's time to crawl under the steps (I suppose he prob lives there, but now I know he's there which makes me squirmy). Oh well! At least Eli didn't kill him.

So all I can say is that I thought I was done getting pet presents, I thought the declawed boys would be incapable of capturing things. I've had other cats that always brought dead mouse, birds and chipmunk gifts -- its the part I really hate about natures great little hunters!

I am now calling Eli by his new name of Snake Breath!!

So what lovely gifts have your pets brought home to you?

The dog I had growing up was OBSSESSED with lizards. Every time we'd go down to Lake Powell or somewhere else in Southwest Utah, she would go into lizard-hunting mode until she dropped.

So one day down on the lake, my mom and I were sitting on the beach when we saw Holly trotting over with something in her mouth. As she got closer, we couldn't tell what it was, but it was MOVING.

Ew.

She came right up to my mom's feet (at this point we realized it was a lizard with it's tail sticking out of her mouth), looked right at her, and CRUNCH. Lizard stopped moving. Holly spit it out on the ground with a triumphant look on her face like "Here Mom! I got it for you!"

How do you get mad about that? It's gross and nasty, but she was so proud of herself. So, the rest of the summer it was dead lizards at our feet. Fantastic.

My cat doesn't go outside, but she is very good at hunting down things we'd forgotten existed. Every morning we wake up and find small piles of things in front of our bedroom door or at the foot of the bed or downstairs at the door to the garage. She especially likes to 'hunt' small electronic gadgets in plastic bags, i.e. wireless headsets for phones, ipod headphones, computer connector chords, etc. We think she gets them off the desk in the office in the middle of the night... :loco:

I love it!

My kittehs aren't much of hunters. But when they were kittens, one of them liked to collect cat toys and other small things and hide them in the back of my closet. It was quite a revelation when I found her stash!

Her big thing now is to sneak into the closet and hide inside the gym bag or ski bag, if I leave it even a tiny bit unzipped. She's quite funny because she always gives herself away with her little chirpy greeting once you get close.

PS. Them's my kittehs in my avatar.
