Thermoformable liners

OK, that's a mouth full! I hope it's a word. My new boots have that kind of liner that can be formed with heat. If it is heated does it accelerate the natural process or if someone does not heat it up would the liner get to that point eventually? I also noticed that my liner is thinner than my previous Nordica boots. Is it because they are a different brand or have the liners gotten thinner with newer models?

Different models, different liners. Heat moldable liners need to be done in store. They have a special heater that heats up the liner. Then they put the liner back in your boot. Buckle everything up and let you walk around the store. This molds the liner to your foot and ankle (if that are the parts that can be done!). So, this can lead to more comfort in new boots.

I got new Nordica's last year. My bootfitter went over my feet meticulously, and taped little bits of foam padding over the pressure spots - bunions, ankles etc, and put a rubber box over my toes. Then I put my socks back on and forced my feet into the boots that had been having the liners heated, and buckled them up. Waited around for about half an hour of agony. The boots are fantastic, I haven't had any major 'breaking in' pain like I have with previous boots.

Did your bootfitter not do this?
