An aside here, the snow in Vermont has been amazing this week! I think we've had over 30 inches since last weekend. For me, one of the best local ski weeks I've had in a long time.

Even at number six we are below average. Crummy year all over.

I went looking for an updated season total snowfall to see if Alpental (one of the 4 Snoqualmie areas) had caught up to Alyeska. No--Alyeska has 606", Baker has 476" and Alpental has 472". Stevens has 470" which is more than their annual average.

Whew. We are in a cycle of unrelenting storms. The lower elevations got rain yesterday on top of heavy snow which made a mess. There were natural avalanches on Stevens Pass Hwy. All three cross-state mountain passes closed again yesterday and overnight. But we are back to heavy snow. Here's the forecast (for Alpental). I do wish it would calm down so roads would stay open, avy danger would lessen and we could ski. I have a reservation at Crystal tomorrow and they haven't been quite as pummeled (17" in the last 48 hours, up to 6" more expected by tomorrow) but...is it a good idea to ski alone? If I stay on groomers? Not sure.

Cleaning up one of the Stevens Pass avalanches. The ski area closed early on Sunday and state patrol escorted people down the highway's east side (but everyone lives to the west). The ski area will remain closed today.

Wow.

After being jealous of those huge snow totals, I remind myself that the road to the mountain is rarely closed in the Northeast.
