The Official Aura Love Thread

It seems like... once a week or so, someone posts a thread about the Auras, or makes a comment about theirs. I want to know who has them, what year, and what length! If you have a question about them, post it here! Happy story? Here too!!

My Auras haven't met any other Auras yet, and are very sad.

Happy to hear so much Aura love, but I'm curious about the respective ht/wt of each poster??

I am 5'7," 145lbs. and not sure if I should commit to a 163 or 170 in the Auras. My old straight skis are 175s, and I tend to like longer skis for the stability at speed and those nice long arcs, but I'm thinking I should step down to the 163s for a big all-mountain ski.

Any advice???

Thanks be to The Divas

alyeskaluv, I am also 5'7" and 145 lbs. I ski the 163 but I am new to powder and chop. There's another Diva in Idaho who is our size who ALSO skis the 163 so they are more manageable in trees and bumps, but if you like a longer ski, are an advanced skier, and want to ski primarily powder with your Aura, I would go for the 170.

:focus:

Here's a photo from earlier today at Stowe in Northern Vermont.

Beautiful pic!

Thanks for the advice. After reading some more, I was pretty set on the 163 - I really want to take this ski everywhere, and that length will make it super manageable in all terrain! Placing my order tonight - can't wait to test my Auras over the New Year at Mt. Alyeska!!!

I have the same ones as volklgirl and vanhoskier, the 06 177s. I don't have a great photo, but you can kinda see them here:

A longtime lurker of this fabulous forum, I simply can't resist posting in the official aura love thread.

Just wanted thank everyone for weighing in on the Aura's so specifically- it's because of this forum that I made my purchase. I have a brand spanking new pair (0809, 163cm) leaning against my bookshelf at home right now; I am *SO* excited to take them out.

VERY difficult to concentrate at work this morning as the snow is falling in Tahoe and my addiction to snow cams has taken precedent over all other responsibilities. Think I may have to "get sick" tomorrow.

Agreed, acu200!

This site was immensely helpful in my quest to find the right ski. I ordered my Auras last night ('09, 163 w/ Marker TI 12.0s) and they should be here just in time for my trip to Mt. Alyeska on the 30th!

The Divas are truly extraordinary - I have been searching for new gear for quite some time, but the advice and tips on this site made my choice fun and easy! I cannot wait to hit the mountain and play on my Auras over the New Year

I have the 07/08 white Auras in a 163 with Fritsche Freerides. I'm 5'8" about 138lbs. I love, love, love these skis! Looking forward to the powder this year!

I really like the 163 length. As ski now work later commented, I like the 163 for turning in the trees and crud. Noteably, I have really pushed the Auras on groomed runs and the 163 has held a carve just fine.

At 190+ish lbs, I demoed the 163 and was pretty impressed with its performance. When the 177s popped up on e-bay, I was really hesitant about the extra length. I have to say, though, that I'm really glad I went with the 177 over the 163.....they lose very little maneuverability but gain tons of stability at speed and float in deeper snow.

Jeez, I don't check in for a few days and you guys are talking Aura love without me? Actually this thread is a good idea, OJ.

07/08 in 170. Mounted with Marker 12.0 Free bindings. Only been on them twice so far, but LOVE them. You can see mine in the quiver thread.

I'm 5'10" 145ish

I concur.

5'9" 135 ... the 177s are wonderful, except in hard bumps. But if I think I'll be skiing a lot of bumps, I bring out the Queen Attivas. (It's so funny, those used to seem rather unwieldy in bumps, at 87 wide .. now they are my bump skis! ha)

I wish there was a 167! Then I could compromise between my desire for maneuverability and stability. I am excited to have fun on the 163s, and I'm already telling myself that if I want to go longer, I can just look forward to buying another pair with next year's graphics  Time to build that quiver!!!

Just checked the shipping status, and my Auras will arrive tomorrow . . . just in time to get them mounted and waxed before a Saturday at North America's farthest north ski lift!

Auras & Love of Auras in my future...

So today I demoed a slew of skis and the Auras were the definite standout. I LOVED them- they navigated all conditions with ease...

Only trouble is...I HATE the top sheet. Obviously, there isn't another ski that is constructunally the same as the Aura, so I'm at a loss.

A guy friend suggested buying them and then spraypainting the tops a single color, which sounds beyond trashy to me. And someone else said that the mantras are the same ski, except with a different top sheet. My impression is that the Mantras are not acutally the same. Thoughts?

Should I just suck it up and stare and pink, gold, and black geisha all season?
