Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I was taking minutes recently at a town committee meeting about how to spend some federal grant money. The town has a community ski hill with a t-bar and backcountry areas, but no snowmaking. When there's decent snowfall, it's great skiing. When there isn't, you go elsewhere.
The meeting's consensus settled around spending the money on an amphitheater that would enhance cultural events and give the local school an outdoor classroom.
Speaking in favor of the project, one member said "We simply have to diversify from the winter sports industry."
Ooof.
I mean, we all know it, and everyone nodded. But most of us still sort of say and think optimistically "I hope we'll have good snow this year!" But we all know those days are getting fewer. It was a bit of a gut punch.
