The best views....

we were having this discussion this weekend as we sat at the top of Brundage Mt, Idaho, looking out over Payette Lake and into the heart of the Idaho Rockies...

I can't claim to have been to a lot of places, that's for sure.

My vote would be for the view from the top of Kicking Horse, looking out over the Purcell Mts/Rogers Pass terrain in Canada. The view from the bar at the top of the mountain is to die for.

Lake Louse was discussed, as was Schweitzer and some of the Tahoe resorts.

Photos are a bonus, of course.

Best views are in Whistler during the Camp Moomba Charity Race. Participants have 2 seconds shaved off their time if they ski naked!

That may be some scenery we don't need to see. But any view from mid-station up with the village in the background is good enough for me. Looking at one in the office now that I took 7 years ago.
My vote for best view in the east - Canada, is from the top of Owl's Head looking north to Magog. Lac Memphremagog travels north south right beside the mountain. Sometime you see cars and ski-doo's too. But mostly white lake and dark mountains to the north.

LOL. That's true. In case you were wondering, they had it set up so you couldn't get there by accident.

Zermatt doesn't suck. And viewing the Alps from a helicopter is not bad (although photos just don't do it any justice ... as with most views).

The Alps is definitely (one of) my favorate, though I haven't been to Zermatt (yet).

Still, I'd say Lake Tahoe tops. View of the lake from Squaw (best) or Heavenly (second best) are un-beatable. (no, I don't have digital photos for them since I visited during the good old days of FILM cameras!!! )

And a long forgotten sleeper, in the midwest, Boyne in Michigan. View of Lake Michigan, in a good day, almost feel like a mini-Lake Tahoe! Sadly, it's much rarere to have a blue bird day in Michigan than in the Sierra (nor does the snow compare...)

I don't have a favorate from the east. Though the view from the top of Whiteface isn't too bad. So is Mt. Washington.

But it doesn't even come close to the views in the CO and UT, which still pales compare to the Alps.

Though I must say, the Rockies have some really nice variety, such as Taos and Jackson Hole... As nice as the view of Lake Tahoe, I need the variety (and it explains why I haven't been back since 2002)

I confess I use skiing as an excuse to travel to places in the winter season, for a change of scenery!

p.s.

Not a downhill skiing area, but x-c skiing at Bryce Canyon in the winter is totally un-real! White snow clinging to the red voodoos, out of this world!!!

I love Bryce in the winter. My husband proposed to me on a snowshoe trip there!

I definitely think the view from the top of Highlands Bowl overlooking the Maroon Bells is in the top 10!! Of course, I am biased.

SOOOOO jealous that you get to see Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak on a regular basis. Those peaks are absolutely beautiful.

Not really ... that is amazing for ANYwhere!

Another of the best views (but no photo) was at Whistler/Blackcomb. We were there during a monstrous high pressure system, so no snow, but the views were unreal. And I hear that you can't often see that much there, due to the very common clouds and fog. So even though the skiing was marginal, the weather and the views were to die for.

Pinto--that second picture, the one looking down, gave me vertigo! Only after the nausea passed was I able to appreicate how beautiful your pics are.

How's this one? (Was that mean? It's a cool photo though ... that building is where the tram enters ... it's unreal. Then you walk through a tunnel in that mountain and out the other side.)

I love the view from Keystone's outback of Breckenridge. It may not be as wordly as some of the aforementioned views, but it's in my backyard so I'll take it! :D

The Maroon Bells are breathtaking. I have seen them while horseback riding and hiking... there was still snow on them when we went in July!
