In the Decisions thread, we discussed Orage pants, and how awesome they look.
While many of us have different shaped bodies and different style tastes, I have to share a story about a pair of ski pants that I was willing to over spend on. Can't remember the price, but I remember that they were not cheap.
I saw them on the wall and they went ZING!!!
I had to have them no matter the cost, and they would have looked great with my jacket!!!
I tried them on and . ...............Ugh!
There were sooo many hot spots on body fit that I couldn't wear them to walk across the parking lot, let alone to ski all day.
I was thoroughly disappointed and have never found a pair of ski pants I liked the looks of, so much.
I totally would have spent the $$$$ for them.

Is there a piece of gear you would have spent the $$$ on that totally bummed you out when it didn't work?

Is there a piece of gear you spent the $$$ on that has become your best find yet?

I searched for quite a few months before buying my new jacket last November, and I love it. I'm still looking for ski pants that fit right (and don't cost $300). If I find pants or (street) shoes that fit, I usually buy them.

Didn't work for me: Volkl Kaya '06 and a host of jackets that I wound up selling.

Love 'em: Volkl Aura '08, Cloudveil pants and jacket '08, Giro Fuse helmets, all years, and Solomon CT-1 '07 poles (would love to find another pair to buy in 120 or 115 cm)

spending $$$ on something? Anything? That's just not me. ;-)

I must admit I bought a jacket that's one size too big for me. But it look so good on the wall, and it was something like 50% off, it even matched my boots!!! So I bought it and hope I "grow" into it (not really, but I do hope nobody notice I'm one size too small for the jacket! ) It's been nearly 15 years now. It hasn't gotten out of style (it's a pretty "classic", aka, "non-styled" style). Nor has it shown any sign of wear! :D It's still my most favorate ski jacket!!!

Boots. Those are different stories. Whenever I found one (I only try them on when I need a new pair) that fits my feet, it doesn't really matter how much it cost. It's mine. Period. End of story.

I don't feel strongly about skis. And am not very pciky about other ski gears. So sale is my motto in almost everything else besides boots.

Yes definitely a ZING thing when I tried on a KJUS jacket in Telluride. The fit, style, and extraordinary quality genuinely compelled me to wrestle with need versus "' I gotta have it." Because I was in the shop for a boot adjustment --and wandered over to clothing while waiting--I knew there would be a hefty bill for the two if I added the jacket. So...after I returned from the trip I gave in the the ZING, called the shop and bought it over the phone!
