That is not me on PLS.

Someone has registered on a new ski forum with my user name and profile information.

I would like to announce here that that is not me, and I have asked the administrators to delete that user's identity so as not to create confusion and to protect my on-screen identity and integrity. In the event that they do not do this, I disavow any posts made or info provided by this person.

I am registered as Ski Diva on EpicSki and Alpinezone. That, indeed, is me!

Eww, forum identity theft! Sorry to hear it happened to you. I hope it's handled quickly.

Num, I couldn't have said it better.

As you all know, I'm all for encouraging women in this sport we love so much.

Yesterday I was lurking and noticed that Ski Diva had joined there, so I looked at the profile page, which matched THE Ski Diva's profile page word for word.
It wasn't long after that, that the Profile pages became unaccessible to those who aren't registered(which is as it should be)
If this were a case of someone coincidentally having the same username, no problem, but the profile info being duplicated is extremely unsettling.

I am confident that they will take time to discuss this and do the right thing. Who wouldn't?

Wow. That's just weird and creepy.

Good question.

I mean, it's such an obvious infringement on another person's identity and good will. I know members here who've been asked to submit alternative screen names because the ones they registered with were potentially misleading. Cleaning up that kind of stuff is just common sense. (Not to mention common decency.)

Regardless, people who want to hang out with THE Ski Diva -- and the lively and helpful Ski Diva community we've all loved for so long -- know where to come. Right here.

Eew, that IS creepy. The person's profile has apparently been edited--there's nothing on it at all now--even the location (Vermont) is gone.

Thanks for the update, Sue. As you can imagine, I have found the whole business of someone masquerading as me quite troubling. I just hope that when the person with this user name posts, no one thinks it's me.

Sad to say, that's exactly what they'll think. And as long as the management of that other site doesn't change the user's name, that's the way it'll be.

You know what they say: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

My two cents.

Wow, that's very odd and a bit scary.

I understand Ski Diva's concern about confusion & the troubling emotions. I am failing to see where the scary part comes in. Am I just internet ignorant about the scary part ? I don't see it.

I would say the best descriptor is unsettling, rather than scary.
The reason it was unsettling is because the initial profile page of the PLS Ski Diva was a duplicate of TheSkiDiva.com Ski Diva.

Imagine if someone were to register on another forum, as IntheClouds, and filled out their profile page identically as your profile page here. I can imagine that you'd find that unsettling.

As was posted earlier in this thread, it appears that the Owners of PLS have edited the profile of Their Ski Diva, which is helpful, however, it doesn't take away the wonderment of what that users reason was/is for duplicating The Ski Divas profile, initially.:noidea: If you think about the motivation for that, its a bit scary.

No one is talking about the white elephant standing in the room? Maybe the mods will have to delete my post, I accept that upfront.

What's up with this breakaway site anyway? Forget about copied IDs there are copied thread topics! It seems strange to grab the content and ideas from here as well.

There isn't one thing that is different about that site besides the colors. They are pulling the same users, same format and copying the content. It seems snarky to me, but I don't know what dramas prompted this move.

If I could see one original idea being put forward in the premise for that forum I could see myself supporting it. Right now I don't.

Ditto. And I don't understand why the pseudo Ski Diva wasn't deleted in its entirety. Was this break off BECAUSE of Ski Diva somehow and they are trying to get back at her?

I find it pretty weird too.

If you want to make your own site that's open to snowboarding and spouses, go for it. Nothing wrong with that.

WHY do you need to steal all the topics and such from here? Think of your own content. If there were enough original ideas that warranted a whole new site, then come up with some original posts, don't just cut and paste everything from here.

And the fact that the Ski Diva alias is registered over there in a very suspicious manner definitely tells me someone has a beef with her over something and is/was planning to do something at least not very nice with it. It ought to be deleted since it was an obvious imposter.

Well, men and snowboards are the main differences I saw, to be fair. But I don't have the time to look too closely into an additional ski forum, anyway. I registered over there to answer a question.

As for drama, I have absolutely no clue. I never know what's going on. Oblivious is my middle name. :becky:

Oblivious is a good place to be. I think I'll take a vacation there for a moment.

In all fairness to the reason for this thread, Pinto, I believe you understand a little bit of what SkiDiva is feeling.

The Ski Diva is a truly beautiful woman with a gracious spirit. If you haven't had a chance to meet her yet, you're in for a treat when you do.

Oh, I understand that, and I understand the reason for the thread, and agree that it should be here. I just was responding to bklyn's point with the thread that there wasn't any difference, when I thought there was at least a tiny bit.

As for everything else, I'm trying to remain consciously obtuse. If that makes any sense. I'll go stick my head back in that hole in the ground now ....

I definitely see a difference, also, but then I'm a bit busy, and haven't been keeping track.
