Hello Ladies.. well, I tested out the new gear today! No, this isn't going to be a review. 1. I don't find my skiing ability to be on par enough to review these skis/boots 2. The skis didn't have problems today, I did!
Picture a nice early afternoon, high of 55 <whoa!> and a crowded mess of people on the slopes. The ski lodge was way too warm for the weather, and it took about 45 minutes for me to get my lift ticket even with a season pass.
Fast forward, first run out. My poor niece! We were halfway down the hill, stopped, chatting for a moment.... here comes an out-of-control snowboarder. SLAM..
.. took my niece out right at her ankles... she's nine... It was like it happened in slow motion. I turned right, saw him coming, turned to her. Before I could even say anything her skis and poles went flying... SHE went flying... smacked hard right down on her shoulder and banged her head on the snow. Yes, it was warm today... but remember, we get the hardstuff. Was she wearing a helmet? No. Will she be the next time she goes skiing... yes. I popped off my skis in record time and rushed over to her. She was okay... okay good. She was stunned, and then started to cry. The boarder was stopped about 10 feet away and DIDN"T EVEN SAY ANYTHING! I was madder than &*%#!!!:yell: First, I don't have anything against snowboarders and I realize that accidents happen, but I do have something against out of control skiers/boarders who can't even stop. And to not even say you're "sorry" "is she okay"... ANYTHING!!!! He was at least a teenager, she's nine!! Did I yell at him... oh yeah.. I did. I couldn't help it. Say you're sorry--make sure she's okay or something for Pete's sake!
We sat on the hill for a few minutes, then after she was ready to move, we gathered up our skis and headed for the lodge to have lunch. She had a headache and her shoulder was soar.
So after lunch we hit a few other runs, took our time, and had a blast. A few things about the K2 One Luvs I found were that they glide nice, turn easily, and probably prefer a more proficient skier than myself!
The snow on the other blues was pretty thick and slushy, and I was having issues with how out of shape I am <yeah, time to work harder on that.>.
It wasn't until the end of the day when I finally found my ski legs, and we went back to the hill with hardpack <why one was this way and the others weren't, not sure> that I felt I had a "good" run. From the top to the bottom I skied on edge to edge and had some really solid turns. I actually kinda shocked myself to be honest. I was thinking "were was this all day??"... And then we left. I picked up my niece some cute pink Oakley Stockholm goggles in the ski shop before we left, and we found a nice helmet we'll be purchasing before we head out again. All in all, it was a decent day... not a good day, but decent.
It's hard--mentally--I'll admit, to look out at ski slopes and think of the days when the black diamonds felt like greens... and when you were so fit that you didn't feel a thing--nothing hurt, nothing was soar--and how easily and carefree you used to ski. But alas, those are days gone, and now it's time for starting over. But none the less, skiing still rocks, and I'm having a blast!
