Telluride?

So I got my hands on the CO Gold Passes for a weekend through work. I think I've decided to hit up Telluride and am looking for a VERY cheap place to stay that isn't too far from the mountain.

Any suggestions? Any other suggestions about Telluride...food, bars, etc.?:help:

We're heading for Telluride in Feb. The Lumiere sent us a very descriptive and extensive list of restaurants, pubs, bars, coffee houses, etc., both in the mountain village and in town. If you're interested send me a PM and I can email it, it's a large document!

On mountain - a great place to grab lunch and a drink afterwards in mountain village is the Skier's Union. Try to have an apres drink at Allreds (I think it's a private club but we've always managed to talk our way in), great bar, bar food, spectacular setting and views.

In town - THE, I mean THE best Chinese food ever - Shanghai Palace (highly recommend the volcano prawns), La Marmotte and Rustico, the Last Dollar Saloon (the Buck) for cheap, good margaritas.

Telluride doesn't have a lot of cheap lodging, but I'd check vrbo.com and look for condos at Viking, Cimmaron or Telluride Lodge. These will be the cheapest in-town rentals, although, you can also check the San Sophia and Victorian Inn for comparison. (The latter two are in the heart of "downtown" while the condos are a little more of a walk.)

The Sheridan Bar and the Last Dollar Saloon (locally known as "The Buck") are good bar options. The Bubble Lounge recently changed ownership and is trying to market itself for apres ski, but I've not been in there since it changed hands, so can't comment. Fly Me to the Moon is good for late night dancing/drinking.

Restaurants run the gamut...it really depends on what you're looking for. In the mid-price range I like Siam, Excelsior's bar special (between 5:30 and 6:30 each night, at the bar only), La Cucina de Luz (best Mexican in town...not much for ambiance though), Honga's bar special (can't remember the exact times) and Cosmo's "three entrees at $19" special. The Corner House has the best bar food in town, while the new Hop Garden (owned by Teleski) is probably the best in Mountain Village. My favorite restaurant is La Marmotte, but it's pricey. The food at Smuggler's is awful, but they do brew their own beer, which is quite good. If you have specific things you're looking for, let me know.

The Skier's Union is no more...it is now the Hop Garden, although they do feature "The Skier's Union Burger."

And, Allreds isn't a private club, except at lunchtime...only go there for appetizers and a drink...it's really, really expensive, and frankly, not worth it.

Is Hawkeye holding up the bar at the Hop Garden now instead?

lol...Hawkeye's a friend of mine actually, and no...don't see him too much at the Hop Garden. Not sure where he's hanging these days, but my husband sees him all the time...they both volunteer for TASP.
