Tecnica Flame or Nordica Olympia 12

I have a hard time picking either the Tecnica Flame or Nordica Olympia. They felt about the same and just as good looking. Does anyone have any recommendation? Thanks

I love my Nordica Olympia sm 12's. Tecnica and Nordica have a very different feel. I really didn't feel that they (flames) felt much like the SM 12's. The tecnica has a much higher volume thru the instep (even after the hot form) and felt a lot softer with a little more forward lean than I was looking for. I think you need to really ignore what they look like. See if you can snap on a pair of skiis with them in the store. Roll from edge to edge flex down and forward with the boots in the bindings. See which feels the snuggest and allows you to flex down and forward with a good rebound off of the tongue. You shouldn't bottom out the tongue, nor should you have to drop your hips to make the boot flex. Both boots are aimed at the same skier type so their snow performance is about the same, but you should be noticing a fit difference. And a good fit will help to give you a better snow feel.

Thanks for that post perma-grin, I have an appointment for new boots soon (he's special ordering some SM's for me) and he also suggested I try the Technicas as well. I will keep your comments in mind.

A lot of us here (including myself) are in the Tec Attiva Flames and have been very happy, FWIW. The under-foot feel in these is awesome. Great snow feedback.

Mine are new this season, can't address pack-out. Also, I have Superfeet Cork custom insoles, which are my salvation in any boot but have been in 3 consecutive Tecnica's in 7 years.

Both are great boots, good luck in your decision.
p.s. Tecnicas run BIG, keep this in mind

I just got the Attiva Flames in December, and I really LOVED them. My feet never hurt. I changed over from my Nordica Beast's, which were actually nice boots but they just never fit MY feet right. I think boots are a really individual thing...what fits one might not fit another. My Nordicas were just all wrong for my particular feet, unfortunately. This time around I ended up with the Flames because I went to a boot fitter to find out what worked for ME. I think stiffness of boots is an issue...I once rented some Head boots which were way too soft and I hated them.

I cant wear the attiva flames and i have had an impossible time trying to sell them this year, it seems like they just dont fit anyone! but i know i see them all over the hill so they work for many. The SM 12 on the other hand sold great and I have had lots of customers who are very very happy with those. There are many ways those boots are different in terms of construction ect... but if they feel very similar to you the test suggested above are good ones. Based on my personal experience I would say do the Nordicas but its up to you!

I'd wish I can get them for free w/ big purchases, but they are not very expensive and if you have a decent deepfryer at home, then you should try to buy the cracker type (white color) and fry them at home. And thanks everyone for the info. I do wish I could try it on the slope first but I think I'll get the Nordicas.

No but I live out in the boon' toonee's so we take what we can get.
But now that I know about them I've got to try them. By the way has anyone reread this thread? Tech talk and food it doesn't get any better than that! Lol! :ROTF:

I use the name of my favourite chocolate bar on another forum, but it doesn't translate very well outside of Australia!

okay, heres another question, the Nordica SM felt very good and left me with about or less than 1.5 fingers of gap in shell fitting, overall is very tight but not uncomfortable at all (after wearing them for about an hour). But as we know, they will get a little bit bigger after many runs; so, should I down size them for a bit and try to tolerate the pain right now or this is something I shouldn't worry about? Thanks.

I wouldnt. You can try the smaller size but from your shell fitting it sounds like you will be crammed in there..no good! If the boot does pack out your ski shop can put a stiff cardboard shim to take up a little room or you can switch to thicker socks. These are probably a better solution than going down a size but try the size if they've got it if for no other reason than to reassure yourself that you did pick the right size.
