Talk Some Sense To Me

There I am looking at Sierra Snow Board, and Sierra Jim has gone and dropped the price for the Dynastar Exclusive Legend to $280. I haven't had a chance to demo these, but they sound like a perfect fit to what I'm looking for and were on my short list for demo-ing. At that price, even with the additional cost of bindings I figure I could buy them and, in the off chance I hate them, sell them on ebay or the like for a reasonable cost. I *know* I should demo, but now I'm being tempted. If someone doesn't convince me not to pull the trigger, I'm going to end up with a brand new pair of skis. And I know there aren't any enablers here ton SkiDiva :D.

I don't think you're going to get much "sense talking" around here. I made the same rationalization earlier this year with some cheap twin tips from eBay, and then again recently with my Roxy Joyriders that I got for 50% off through sierrasnowboard.com. Neither were demo'd by me. :D

I can't believe you entitled this thread "Talk Some Sense To Me." Don't you know what passes for sense here at TheSkiDiva? :becky:

Or, more specifically, $279.60. What are you, reading my mind??? Same page is up and loaded on my computer!!! Difference: I have demo'd these, and I LOVE THESE SKIS, and....as I've said in the past....resistance is futile. What do you want to know about them? Will you leave a pair for me? What are your specs? (i.e., ski level, what/where you ski, general size) One hot tip: Dynastars ski "short." Holler back if you don't know what this is.

Both pairs of skis I got this year I got without demoing, and quite honestly, they're my favorite 2 pairs of skis! I reasoned similar to what you're thinking with my Fischer Vision Breeze skis--I got 'em so cheap on eBay that, even if I sold them used, I'd probably make money on the deal. But they're not going anywhere. They're my primary ski now.

Did I talk you out of it? :becky:

I'm sure you didn't, SueNJ, and I did even worse! Go say hi to the new member from NJ!

And I'll let you all know when my NEW SKIS ARRIVE!
Via UPS, I'm sure!
Great, just what I needed, right? (Oh wait til SnowHot sees this... ....) OTOH, I've been waiting for that price drop.

I'll talk some sense into you. BUY THEM!
You talkin' to me? Too late! But she better hurry, because there's one less pair in her preferred size!! :becky: With any luck, I'll be on them weekend after next (thank goodness for northern latitudes, esp at this time of year!!) -- or sooner!

BTW, MSL, love the new pic!!

BUY THEM! He he... hehe....

Here is the reason... 1. You want to 2. You will regret NOT buying them, but you wont regret buying them <as you already stated, you could always sell>.

Umm....3. Quiver??

Yeah, I hope you bought them already...

I'm a believer in demo-ing. And this fall I just asked my PSIA examiner friend who is a Volkl rep what he would suggest and ordered them. Love the Ativa Fuego. He was absolutely right. Couldn't be better for me. Of course he knows me, etc. etc.

Buy the skis. How wrong can you go at that price?

^^^ ha! She could list them here on gear for sale, and I'd probably buy them for a spare! :becky: I just hope I didn't overstep my bounds in re recommendations---given my great fondness for these after demo. Not a ton of Dynastar fans on this forum, but that's okay - leaves more of them for ME!!

Thanks, Sol, was time for an avatar change, better snow conditions in this shot, anyway! And at my age, I really do look better in goggles!

MSL, in that pic you could be 18 and lovin' life for all we know! Age smage... you're having fun! And that's what counts!!

My sister was telling me tonight at dinner that "Oh you'll be thirty in two weeks, and it's all downhill from there"... yeah yeah... It's all about mentality!!! Who needs numbers anyway!

And, I'm happy to say, it's a realllly looonnnnngggg run :becky: - and I can't quite see the base lodge through my goggles yet! All of 30, eh? Heck, you've just barely pushed off the chairlift!

Two things...

I know Jim personally and he's a REALLY smart man with a ton of information, I would email him or call him at SSB and talk to him about the skis. I bought my Lange boots and women's twin tips from him when I lived in Nor Cal.

That said. GO FOR IT!!! Dynastars are a great ski and those are designed for women BY A WOMAN...does it get better.

I cannot wait to get mine. Can't believe OP started this thread while I had the page open on my computer!! That did it, I pulled the trigger after getting the semi-reluctant nod of approval from the household wage-earner - for whom this conversation was nothing new....

You all aren't helping - or maybe you are :D. I still haven't pulled the trigger - I'm having difficulty getting over buying a ski I've never been on - but I'm working on it. Hopefully I'll get over my apprehension before all the skis go bye-bye.

Yeah, aren't we naughty?? :becky: It was just too wild of a coincidence that I saw that 60% off right around the time you did. I had the clear advantage, however, of having demo'd. Have to tell you, in all honesty, that while the price is good - if in doubt, take a deep breath. And wait. It really does sound like you'd be happier buying something that you've been on at least for a short time. There are probably a dozen skis out there that would work great for you (if not wayyyy more).

I had my 3 favorites of the demo day and was closely watching prices on all 3. Was the price drop that did it for me. If the K2 or Elan I liked had come up with as good of a deal, I'd have probably gone that route.

Good luck with your decision---trust your instincts, and don't be swayed by our somewhat silly demeanor here, as many of us tend to be "quiver collectors!"

Oh man, MSL, you make me smile! :becky: It is so reassuring to know that there are other women out there who go crazy for great ski deals! You'll need to post a pic of your quiver!

My DH has now gotten used to me cruising the web for skis. He calls me "gearhead."

If SouthernSkier is able to hold out after all this, then she is probably the least easily influenced one of the bunch of us!
