Sweaty Hands = Stinky Mittens

I wear mittens because my fingers freeze in gloves, however, they seem to sweat in mittens (no happy medium). I know some people use anti-persparent on their feet; has anyone used it on hands?

I just came back from a two week ski vacation and am unpacking and doing the mountain of laundry. I have two pair of mittens that I alternated due to the sweating problem, and notice that both are a little ( )on the stinkey side. Any cure for this problem, or is it just time for new mittens? Since they are not worn out, I would hate to have to thow them out.

I love mittens, but I wear a pair of glove liners in mine. Washing glove liners is a breeze. Washing mittens, not so much.
I would not use antiperspirant on my hands- too much opportunity for cross contamination, who knows where it could end up.

I don't know if you are using the type with liners or not, if not, this should help. Using the mittens with liners you can take the overmit off on the lift and air it out a little between runs. Most will have a leash that you can attach to your wrist so you can do this easily without dropping one. The liners as someone already said wash out and dry out easier overnight. To me the one piece gloves create all sorts of unnecesary evils including smells. Even the overmitt on a two piece can be turned inside out to dry etc to prevent this as well. You could probably even try putting a powder or something between the liner and the mitt to soak up excess moisture, but on their own, a decent overmitt should breath well enough to prevent this without further ado. Full leather mitts are awsome in some regards but don't breath particularily well. You might look for a two piece mitt that has some other more breathable materials incorporated as well.

Same problem here. I take 2 pairs of gloves and liners with me every time. I change out at first break. Liners will save the mittens, and they can be easily washed - doesn't matter if they came as inserts or purchased separately. They wash nicely.

Strange as it may sound, deodorant/anti-perspirant can work on your hands. You might try tossing one of the little travel sized ones into your ski bag. There are also other products available by prescription.

I found a pair of mitten/gloves at race camp year before last and LOVE them. They're mittens on the outside, but inside each finger has its own sleeve, like a glove, so there's fabric to absorb the sweat.

The guy who sold them to me, Franz Fuchsberger (aka "Fuxi"), has a website with his stuff. I think the gloves are the ones at https://www.fuxiracingusa.com/product.aspx?CategoryID=10&Category2ID=&ProductID=268. You can ask him if those are the ones that have the glove inside, or if he still carries them. The only downside is there is no gauntlet to go over your cuff (I've come to prefer those), but boy, are they warm and not icky.

You can also try something like this: Hockey spray

Look lower on the page for "Hockey Hands" as well. Nothing smells quite like hockey gear. Yikes.

Dear Mary,

It was great fun skiing with you on Big Mountain!!

I usually wear gloves--love my Spyder Venom--so warm, but this year it was really cold and I bought some mittens----but, they do not breathe well--so, my hands sweat and the mittens get wet inside!!!

I have never been so cold--have gone back to my gloves!!!
