Swany SkinTex Toaster Mittens

This is pretty cool: a mitten that not only keeps your hands warm, but works to keep them soft, too!

Who could resist? I couldn't. So I ended up getting a pair:

They're Swany Skintex Toaster Mitts. Got mine in black. Anyway, the premise is that the liners they provide for wearing under the mittens are treated with an ingredient that activates lipid production to stabilize your skin's natural protective layer to keep it from getting dry and cracked. To be honest, I can't say if it works or not, since I've only worn them once. But if it does what it's supposed to, I think it'd be great. You don't feel anything in the liner -- I mean, it's not like a layer of moisturizer that'd be all gushy and uncomfortable. It's just a treatment that's supposed to work as your skin warms up.

I do like that the mittens have a zipper along the back of the hand that lets your fingers out, giving you the flexibility of a glove with the warmth of a mitten, which I prefer. And I like that the liner is removable, so you can wash it or dry it out (they provide a recharger you're supposed to use on the liners after you wear them 15 times). They're also warm and waterproof.

Anyway, it's something new that's out there that you might want to check out. You can go here for more information.

Well, I don't have this version of Swany Toasters but I LOVE my leather ones. The zipper is great for dealing with the kids or on those days where you should have worn a lighter glove letting heat out

I got these last season

I bought a pair of the Swany toasters with the trated liners last season. I also bought the gloves with the treated liners. I bought them both in white. Found them easy to keep clean and the treated liner actually works in keeping your hands soft. I also like the removable liner to take out to dry overnight. I ski in the West, so they are only damp from normal perspiration. I recommend these for sure!

I just found the standard "Softy" Toaster in black at MC Sports for 30% off! Hubby bought them as my Valentine's present.....I hope they're super warm.

Swany Skintex Eversoft Toaster Mittens

I now have these in both black and white. I also have the gloves in both colors. One word of warning on the white gloves and mittens. I had washed them in the machine in a mesh bag several times (without the liners), but around the 5th time, some of the dye bled through to the outer shell turning them gray. Total bummer, and Swany wouldn't do anything about it. I replaced them since I loved the white and I only intend to spot clean the shells when necessary. As far as warmth, when really cold, it is easy to put in a heater pad between the shell and the liner. Just slide it in through the zipper. With the gloves, you can slide in from the top. However, if it's cold enough to need the heater pads, then I usually wear the mittens. I like the Eversofts better than the leather toasters, just because they are so soft and comfortable. I feel as if I almost have on gloves instead of mittens. The Skintex treatment really does keep your hands soft as well. The small cuff is nice too. I don't like a large gauntlet on my hand wear. I also have a pair of Hestra lobster claw leather gloves, and while I like them too, the Toaster mittens with a heater pad is still warmer on really cold days. By cold, I mean single digits and below. The gloves can also be used in the spring..if it's cold in the morning, you can wear them with the liners and then remove the liners as the day warms up.

Funny there is a thread on these. I own the Toaster mitts in black and I bought them a couple weeks ago from Reliable Racing at a great price. I usually always ski with gloves, but the Swany brand got rave reviews from my ski instructor so I thought I'd look into the brand. The Toaster mitts caught my eye. I know mitts are supposed to be warmer than gloves, but ironically I suffer from my hands being too warm at times and liked the idea of the shell fabric that pulled in heat from solar rays but the dri tech inside to prevent the sweaty, clammy hands, and liked the zipper to allow the liner to pop out for dexterity or to ski with just the liners but have the mittens still handy or to put in a heat pack if I ever needed (but doubtful, LOL).

Overall I like them, they are soft and the palm leather is uber supple. I am still getting used to the fact that the liner is a bit slick inside the mitten and so it's a new grip "feel" for me.

If you order these, do measure your hand with the instructions given. I am a small to medium in other mittens/gloves, but was a large in these and I do not have an exceptionally large hand. They do run narrow over other mittens/gloves, so don't assume you can order your regular size.

Definitely thinking of ordering some Swany gloves. Like the brand and the fabrics/innovation. :smile:

I have small hands, but always wear a size Medium in Swany. I wear a size 7 in Hestra. I agree with you, order up a size from what you might wear in another glove vendor. I'm really happy with the gloves, since I have them in both white and black:} I am a "glove slut" among other things, so I also have more, including a black pair of leather Kjus gloves that I found on sale. I love those too, but are very expensive if paying full price. The Swany's are a staple for me though..I just won't ever machine wash the white ones again:}

I've now gotten a chance to use mine in conditions ranging from 40 degrees to 22 degrees. No hand warmers needed so far on the colder days, and the ability to open the zipper for venting makes them versatile enough for the warmer days.

I LOVE these mitts!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Oooh! These look like something that might work for me. I have serious cold hands/gloves issues.

I accidentally dropped my glove off the lift at Brighton last week :doh: but decided it was a blessing in disguise because they were always too cold anyway. Picked up a new North face pair from REI and headed to Alta a couple days later, and those were just as bad if not worse! :confused:

I've been in mittens for years but my hands still got cold, so I always used hand warmers. No so with these mitts!! The inner glove allows you to have finger dexterity outside the mitt, but doesn't block any air circulation inside so everything stays toasty. Mmmmmm :love: Plus, you don't have to take them off to do stuff on the hill or the chair, so no chance at dropping and losing them :wink:

I LOVE these mittens. Plus, on really cold days you can easily fit a hand warmer in there. Or, on warm days leave the zipper open as a vent. DH is always jealous of my finger dexterity and wants a pair. These are the perfect pair of mittens!

I got the Softy for $31 at MC Sports.

The web site does a great job of explaining the features of each model.

I unexpectedly found a pair of these at REI the other day. They must have been a return because they were the last pair left on the rack and they weren't there the last time I was looking at gloves (yes, I spend too much time at REI, so! :bag: ). They were the 'Arctic' ones and on clearance for only $50!!! So I picked them up, size L even though I normally wear a S or M, but the bigger size ended up being better because I could fit another pair of thin gloves underneath that I use when skinning. Anyway, I love them! They kept my hands warm on a cold day at Alta, and I love the zipper feature! My only gripe would be that you have to take your hands out carefully or else the liner comes out with it, but I had it down by the end of the day.

Thanks divas for the suggestion! :grouphug:

I just got a pair of swany toaster mittens, and I love them. The zipper makes them so versatile. And they are warm :smile:

But I have a question my hands get cold EXTREMELY easily ( I have reynauds syndrome my hands get numb and start to hurt just holding a cold drink, my feet get numb sitting in a cold room) and while my hands are nice and warm in my new mittens if i have handwarmers, my thumbs are still cold, it never gets too bad because i just put my hands in a fist inside the mitten on the lift, but has anybody else had this problem, any suggestions?

Same problem here. The only solution I've ever come up with was on a desperately cold day I stuck an extra set of disposable heaters in the thumbs of my gloves. That works, but it's a little bulky and would get expensive so it has to be ridiculously cold for me to do that.

Other than that, I just go with pulling my thumbs into my fist when I'm on the lift. Can't think of many other options....

Oh - and I've used Swany gloves with the specific pocket for the heaters, but find it works just as well with other mittens with a liner - just stick the heater pack between the liner and outer glove and voila. :smile:

Love my Swany's!! I have the leather mitts, they are so soft and so warm. They are much more flexible than the normal fabric gloves or mitts I used to own. I think the leather one's just get better and better with age as they soften and mold to the creases in your hands.

I get cold numb hands, cold numb feet, my arms even start to get cold inside of my down jacket.

I put the hand warmers in my jacket and my gloves. (too bad they won't fit in my boot!

Thank goodnes for costco bulk size boxes of handwarmers! They are only $16 for 40 pairs of handwarmers!
