This is pretty cool: a mitten that not only keeps your hands warm, but works to keep them soft, too!
Who could resist? I couldn't. So I ended up getting a pair:
They're Swany Skintex Toaster Mitts. Got mine in black. Anyway, the premise is that the liners they provide for wearing under the mittens are treated with an ingredient that activates lipid production to stabilize your skin's natural protective layer to keep it from getting dry and cracked. To be honest, I can't say if it works or not, since I've only worn them once. But if it does what it's supposed to, I think it'd be great. You don't feel anything in the liner -- I mean, it's not like a layer of moisturizer that'd be all gushy and uncomfortable. It's just a treatment that's supposed to work as your skin warms up.
I do like that the mittens have a zipper along the back of the hand that lets your fingers out, giving you the flexibility of a glove with the warmth of a mitten, which I prefer. And I like that the liner is removable, so you can wash it or dry it out (they provide a recharger you're supposed to use on the liners after you wear them 15 times). They're also warm and waterproof.
Anyway, it's something new that's out there that you might want to check out. You can go here for more information.

but decided it was a blessing in disguise because they were always too cold anyway. Picked up a new North face pair from REI and headed to Alta a couple days later, and those were just as bad if not worse!
Plus, you don't have to take them off to do stuff on the hill or the chair, so no chance at dropping and losing them
). They were the 'Arctic' ones and on clearance for only $50!!! So I picked them up, size L even though I normally wear a S or M, but the bigger size ended up being better because I could fit another pair of thin gloves underneath that I use when skinning. Anyway, I love them! They kept my hands warm on a cold day at Alta, and I love the zipper feature! My only gripe would be that you have to take your hands out carefully or else the liner comes out with it, but I had it down by the end of the day.
