Walked up to get on the gondola this morning, and low and behold - tents!! Yeah demo day that no body advertised. So I lock up my skis and head on over. All skis were 2009's.
First me: CSIA level 2 instructor, going for 3 next week. So not a power house skier - finesse type skier. Very technical if anything. 5'5 and 165 lb (I think, hope it lower when I get home). Conditions - hero snow, but foggy on top of Tremblant.
Salomon - Opal 162 cm. New women's ski for next season. Very stable at speed, carved well, liked all types of turns. I found the edge to edge transfer longer than I liked, but I got used to it faster than some skis I've tried.
Amythest. 165. New name and top deck for this years Rush, same ski. This is a front side carver. Likes speed and short turns. Found the length a little too long. Edge to edge transfer better for me, than the Opal.
Of the two skis, I would take a serious look at the Opal.
Rossi -attraxion 6. New number and look for this years V. 162 cm. The tips were dancing all over the place. Too light. Yet the tails seemed a little stiff and grabby. The tips seemed too soft to me. I remember the attraxion V as being a noodly ski. This is better.
attraxion 11. 162 cm. This is a new version of the ski. The mutix arms are fixed to the ski. This baby is stiff. I couldn't bend it, so it didn't perform for me as I think it could.
Atomic - Heaven's Gate. aka the Foxy Mama. 162 cm. This ski hasn't changed from the Foxy Mama. Like all Metron's its a stable at speed machine. Edge to egde transfer was quick. Great ski on ice and hardpack. Heavy to lift as usual.
I kept going back for the 7th Heaven aka the Sugar mama. They didn't come back in time. I still want to try that ski.
I'm hopefully also going to try something really new - VIST. Spoke to the rep's wife this AM and she's going to see about a pair for me to try. So that might be tomorrow or next week.
