We went to Sunshine Village yesterday - since we haven't had a good dump in more than 2 weeks, we figured that the snow would be better here than at Lake Louise. We had a wonderful day at Sunshine yesterday! We skied every mountain and every lift. Quite a few were groomed but many still ungroomed. There was a couple of centimetres from the night before, so there was a nice soft beautiful blanket everywhere. Bumps were big but soft. Here's a report by mountain, as conditions were very variable:

Lookout: We spent most of the day on Lookout - conditions were great. We just kept going to the top of the Divide and Angel Express and skiing down different runs. Most of the blues were groomed, the blacks were not and in great condition. We really liked Gold and Silver Ecstasy - nice soft pushed around piles, but relatively small. The very top of Lookout was a little windblown, but still nice fast runs down South Divide and World Cup Downhill. Most fun we had was in the blacks around Boundary Bowl/Piste Noir area - pretty skied out, but the whole bowl is ungroomed, so still really soft. All of the areas 'between runs' were beautiful - and we were finding untracked even still at the end of the day. The worst conditions were on super groomed green and blue runs - Green Run and the connectors had quite a few icy and rocky spots.

Standish/Wawa - Also, surprisingly good conditions. More groomed runs than usual, but still soft and little ice. We only skied Wawa bowl, which was groomed but nice and soft, and some black runs on Standish which were really soft, with pushed around piles.

Goat's Eye - Goat's Eye is desperate for snow. Most of the black and double black runs are closed because they are bare. The big blue groomer, Sunshine Coast, is ok except for the loooong traverse which is hellish because of a combination of ice and bare spots. We did Rolling Thunder, Wildfire and Big Woody. All were in ok condition. Actually, Rolling Thunder was really fun and relatively soft. I think Goat's Eye needs about 2 more storms worth of snow - we only did three laps because we basically skied everything that was open.

All in all, a great day - Lookout Mountain was the most fun yesterday! But definitely pray for snow!:snow:

Neat except you sound like us in the east....no snow so the blacks are closed....But it's still a great day!!

Well...that's not quite the case. All the terrain on Lookout and Standish is open, including all the blacks. It's the Goat's Eye upper mountain that is closed - its very windblown there and early season is usually pretty bad. They put up snow fences there for most of the early season period...But still a great day!

I was there today - really flat light for most of the day, which made things tricky with some of the bare patches. I did Ecstacy once this afternoon and then stayed away, as there are now scraped off patches and rocks on the bottom half; the top is still nice. I agree about Goat's Eye - if they could do something about the traverse, the rest of what's open is not too bad.

Some good news - at 3:00pm today, it just started puking down. Apparently 5+cm between 3 and 4pm alone! Here's hoping it keeps on going.
