Sundance Visit - Yes or No??

I'll be at the Zermatt resort in Utah next week and I have an option to visit Sundance on Friday. Never been there. I'm curious. But in this low snow year, is it worth the extra expense do you think??

Depends on what you are hoping to experience. From the weather forecast from OpenSnow, seems as if next Friday will be a nice day for spring skiing on groomers. Could be a nice introduction to Sundance for future reference. Especially if going with others from the ski club.

Do you have to decide before skiing in Utah?

I've only skied at Sundance for a day. Happened to be a powder day before a trip driving north from SLC to ski Grand Targhee, Big Sky, and Bridger. However, I was skiing solo (ski buddy Bill wasn't feeling well that day) so stayed in tourist mode all day. Rode all the lifts and skied quite few groomers in every section. Had good conversations with locals and got good views of off-piste terrain from the lifts. Riding the Flathead lift, going over there to ski deep powder was very tempting but I wasn't warmed up for off-piste skiing yet. I would go back.

I think I can suspend the decision until I get there. I'm curious, but I'm also loathe to give up my last snowboarder-free day at Deer Valley.

If snow conditions are good at DV, I'd say just go back there.

FYI, there were very few snowboarders at Sundance that powder day I was there. It was midweek. Had a nice chat with a local man on a board. He lived in Provo and had been skiing/boarding Sundance for a few decades. When it's deep powder and the idea is to spend the day in a bowl, there are advantages to being on a board.

The DV forecast looks decent for the next week. In particular, not going to get too hot. I would guess the groomers will be good fun every morning. With the new trails and perhaps fewer people heading to SLC, could still find good snow into the early afternoon. As opposed to having to deal with skied off groomers after lunch.
