Summer Reflections.

Just a few short days to go before the official start of fall!

How do you feel about the passing of the summer of '07? Did you get the things done you wanted to do? Anything noteworthy happen? (I think for Sheena, the answer would be yes, since she got married in June!).

What about you?

I finally sold my house, which for me, was a pretty big thing. So we'll be moving at the end of next month.

This was a summer of change for me.

1) I got married - yea!
2) I moved accross the country
3) I learned to mountain bike, sort of

Now all I need is a new job, however I am rather enjoying the time off.

I had a really weird summer that consisted of a lot of little valleys, that together sometimes seemed like the Marianas trench, and some high points. I think overall the high points overshadow the lows, and certainly this will be the case in time. So, the high points were: hiking to Havasu Falls in the Havasupai Reservation in Arizona, running a 5K in under 27 minutes, getting rock star reviews at my 1/2-year job performance evaluation, and, uh, finding time to read Harry Potter in its entirety by 6PM Sunday, July 22.

I meant to take it easy this summer. I ended up finishing a century (100 mile) for the first time with personal fastest average (of rides over 50 miles); a 18 mile circumnavigation of an Ilse le Haut (Maine) by kayak; and a 50 mile "death march" on dirt!

I don't actually know what I did right. But things seem to fall into places. Perhaps breaking out of an undesirable relationship (or two) was what I needed after all.

My summer is not done yet. Heading up to the White Mountains this weekend. More surprise "achievements"?

Well, let's see:
I finished Reflections in the Snow and found a publisher.
At the advice of some of the actors in our local theatre company, I started adapting it into a stage play.
I taught ski fitness in Portillo, Chile, thus giving me seven ski days before the season even starts!
I spent the summer working as a tour guide for the Breckenridge Historic Alliance.
I landed a part-time winter job with theSnowboard Outreach Society, which will soon become Snowsport Outreach (they are adding skiers)
I did not get into any situation that involved emotional angst.
A great summer, indeed.
