Hi Ladies!
I'm new to this forum. Just returned to the Midwest after 8 fabulous days in Utah! Spring skiing for the first half of the week and plenty of powder the last few days at Alta.
To start, here are my details: 5' 9", 130-135 depending on the day, strong quads and hams, 42 years old (still feel very young), ski fast on any surface except deep-mogul black diamonds, and am enjoying my 30-year anniversary of skiing.
In my previous life, I skied 190 straight skis. I went to the local shop a few years ago to move onto carved skis and was sold a pair of what I now believe to be beg/intermediate skis (Nordica SUV 8 X SLE - 160s)...I didn't do any research...just got sold what I presume they wanted to move. Anyway, I've managed fairly well on them, but tried K2 Phat Luvs at Alta, and really enjoyed flying effortlessly through the powder!
As I don't always have deep powder opportunities, I would like to get a ski that will give me a pleasurable, floaty ride in the powder, but that will also hold a firm edge on packed and icy surfaces. I'm not convinced the Phat Luv will do all that.
I've been looking at K2 Lotta Luv and Atomic Sugar Mama (yes, I read snocat's review!) skis on the internet today. Any advice? I've seen reviews rating (1-10) showing the Sugar Mama a 2 in moguls, 4 on groomers, 5 in powder, and a 9 skill level, and the Lotta Luv a 3 in moguls, an 8 on groomers, a 7 in powder, and an 8 skill level. From that rating system I'm more tempted to go for the Lotta Luvs.
However, my partner has only been skiing 5 years and demoed/bought the Atomic Nomad Whiteouts (male version of Sugar Mama, so I'm told). Previously, he skied a beginner/intermediate K2 and couldn't keep up with me. On his new skis, I couldn't keep up with him. So, that makes me want the Sugar Mamas!
Help! What should I do???!!!!

I'll throw in two others to consider, as you sound similar in size and ability to me. I just bought and LOVE the Line Celebrities. I bought them more for Utah powder, but they were great 2 out of 3 days so far in the east. Even on ice! See the review under Gear Reviews. And I recently read another diva's review (skiessie?) of the Rossi B74 which sounded very tempting.
but I don't have any experience with Atomic's carved skis. As I Luv-d the Phats, hope I will at least be infatuated with the Lottas! I found and purchased them on the Internet for $539 last night, although that deal seems to have disappeared today! Found Sugar Mamas for about the same price, but not in the length I wanted.
