Stowe vs Okemo

So I might be heading up to Vermont for my first ski day of the season this weekend :ski2: . Sounds like I missed some of the best conditions earlier on this month :( . Does anyone know whether the conditions at Stowe are much better than Okemo and worth the extra 90 min drive and extra few degrees of cold on Sunday.

I haven't been to Stowe recently, but I was at Okemo last weekend. Despite the thaw/rain last week, by Sunday, the conditions were decent. Overall, the base really held up well. Plus, they got ~6inches on Monday, with more predicted for Thursday night/Friday. I know they've been pulling out all the stops wrt snowmaking, so I bet this weekend will be good.

However, beware of the MLK crowds whereever you go!!

Have fun! :ski2:

Thanks for the info. MLK crowds were another reason for thinking Stowe. I'm hoping it will be a little quieter up there as it is little further away for many people.

Stowe is a great mountain, but it'll be very very cold this weekend, so layer up!

I don't think you can compare Stowe to Okemo in terms ofthe amount and variety of terrain. I ski Okemo mid-week and like the mountain and had the pleasure of skiing Stowe for 3 days in great conditions in December. This coming weekend, Stowe will probably have better snow as I think they survived the thaw a little better and had a deeper base to start with. You may also find slightly less traffic, and it definately has faster lift and gondola access so I suspect the crowds will move more quickly up the mountains. It will be colder up North though and the crowds at either resort will be thick, for sure. Ski safe and have fun!
