Staying Warm

Okay, this may not be worth a new thread, but tonight I went to the NFL game between the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens. Why is this in the "Gear" forum, you ask? Because it was CCOOLLDD out there (especially to stand in place for 3 hours) and I went dressed as a skier. With my REI MTS long underwear under my North Face STH stretch pants, my legs were toasty. The top setup (Marmot under top and REI heavy MTS top under a long leather coat) was amazing.

Granted, we don't generally stand around this long on ski days but I wanted to let y'all know.

nice job keeping warm. But I am definately more interested in how you scored NFL tickets! LOL

FWIW I fell asleep trying to watch the game.

That was an exciting game! I listened to it on satellite radio. I even remember the announcer stating the following: "the Ravens have gone up 14-0 on the Redskins before they can even break a sweat. Not that anyone will be breaking a sweat tonight, it's 25 degrees here."

And you and I think alike in terms of dressing up ski-style for sports games. We dragged my decidedly non-athletic, non-sporting mother to a night soccer game in London last month, and she asked me how to stay warm. I promptly gave her the ol' ski layering explanation. She stayed nice and warm, of course.

I will make a slight confession about warmth........
A few years ago, a friend suggested that I use a hand warmer pack in my camera pocket to preserve battery life. I noticed how much warmer I stayed on the slopes when I had a hand warmer in my inside pocket. Simple thing that keeps the core warm, just enough to take the edge off on a brutal day, and still.......it keeps my camera/cell phone battery from doing dead.

Hand warmers come in handy for bike rides in the cool fall or spring too. I get chilly on my chest because of the wind hitting so I just throw a couple of handwarmers in there held by my bra strap and have just enough heat generation to make the ride very comfortable.

Good tip. Instead of a handful of tissues I'll start using handwarmers! Watch out Dolly, here I come!

Love the handwarmer advice...duh, why didn't I think of that?! Be nice to have it handy when you need a blast of warmth on the lift or something.

If you buy the foot warmers, they have adhesive so you can stick them where needed. Sorta like a nicotine patch lol. We bought a case each of food and hand warmers last winter, still have some left. We had them stashed in both cars, ski bags and ski locker.

I bought a case of both hand and foot at Costco. Both have the adhesive on them. I'm going to try that for the camera. Thanks SnowHot.

hand warmers - my new friend

Another use for those hand warmers that I hope you don't have to try: If you are in a leg cast, slip one of the hand warmers at the toe of the cast. The foot warmers just didn't work as well. I used this several times last winter when I had to stand outside for a few hours while I had my cast.
