Sportubes

Getting my butt in gear for the Diva Summit and lovely Air Canada has an issue with soft ski bags. We've been through this in the "flying with skis" thread.

What I wondering about is should I purchase a single or double Sportube? I'm not sure if I'm bringing 2 pairs so that is only part of the question. In the past I've always used a double bag and packed the bulky stuff like fleeces or ski pants in with the skis. If I only take 1 pair of skis, is there still that kind of room in the double to pack bulky swishy stuff?

FYI - single is $125, double is $199. So not a cost problem.

Thanks Diva darlings!

When I travelled with Air Canada, the excess and oversize baggage rules were waived for ski equipment so long as there was only one pair of skis, boots and poles (or snowboard and boots) and nothing else packed with them.

This had me wondering what would prevent a single pair of skis rattling about excessively in the double sportube? I was thinking of getting the double as I thought it would be more useful if it could be used to carry either 1 or 2 sets of skis.(I ended up with a single as it was the only one available to purchase at the time I needed it.)

Upon arrival, when you see what else has been loaded in the oversize section along with your skis, you are very glad you packed them in a sportube!

I wonder if the size of the skis would determine if a single ST would work. I mean, if you have a pair of fatties, will they fit? I don't know if ST has changed their dimensions since they came out, back in the days of skinny skis. That might be something to consider.
If I bought a double, I'd also invest in some pieces of foam to pad out the excess space if you plan to just carry a single pair.
