Speaking of Socks...

Reading the post asking about washing socks reminded me --

I wanted a third pair of ski socks for our weekend trip earlier this month, and went into REI looking for Smartwool Ultra Light. They didn't have any in my size. REI Guy said they could order them, but of course, it was a last minute thing, so I said, no, that wouln't work for me, and I thought I'd consider the regular light weight ones.

Wandering around the store, I found some Smartwool "plain" knee socks back in the shoe department area. First off, they're fun, stripey things, and they're just about the same as my old ultra lights. They were also a bit cheaper than the substitute sock I'd found in the ski department.

I considered buying a pair in each color because they made my eyes happy, but reason prevailed: I didn't know yet how they would work out for me in use, so I should try just one.

They're my new favorite ski socks!

And while I'm on the subject of socks --

For those of you who are losing weight, my old Smartwools, mentioned above, are now DH's --- just like jackets and pants, socks get too big when you lose weight too!

And vice versa too. When your DH gains weight his stuff becomes your stuff!:ROTF:

If you figure out how to shrink smartwool socks, let me know. I have two pairs that are too big for me... but too small for my husband!
I'm sure you've tried this, but even drying them on a high heat dryer setting doesn't help?

I actually have a couple pairs of those striped "normal" Smartwool knee highs. I wear them for work with my Merrell boots when I'm doing my ticket scanning thing. They are just fine. I don't see any reason why they couldn't work for skiing.

The other day I wore a short pair of cabled SmartWools because I was out of ski socks (had sent the dirty laundry home with family), and they worked fine, too. I did notice my shins were air-conditioned on the lift ride, but otherwise fine. My feet got a little cold, but that happens anyway.

Nope. I've never gotten any smartwool to shrink even the tiniest bit.

Unfortunately I was able to get some to shrink. The BF bought me a pair, but didn't realize that 8.5-9 is not a Small in women's socks. They still fit fine, but then I forgot about them and let them go through the dryer and they're now a bit too small :(

My smartwools haven't shrank a bit and they have ended up in the dryer a couple of times now.
