Question: sore calfs after powder/tree skiing

Hi! I've been skiing for a long time, but still have not quite mastered powder or tree skiing. Whenever I do have a day skiing powder or trees, my calf muscles are sooo sore the next day! Anyone have any ideas on what this says about what's wrong with my technique? thanks!

When my calves get sore, it's often because I've been leaning back (ie, steep slope where maybe I'm tentative and hanging back rather than taking charge). Could it be that you were leaning back rather than using a more neutral stance?

thanks for the quick replies! It could well be that I'm hanging back too much. I googled the same question and saw on another forum that it could be "gripping" with my toes, too. I'll try to stay more aggressive and wiggle my toes!
