Some ski comparisons

Although I just got some new skis...Salomon Origins, 162 length, 74 at the waist, and I LOVE these skis, I think I'm going to keep my eyes open for deals on various skis over the summer and in the fall ski swaps etc. to possibly get another pair that are different from the Origins. I'm thinking I'd like more of a groomer type ski....probably 74 or less at the waist, and something that is good for all types of turns, good edging, etc. Does anyone have any comments about the following? AND...Are there "personality" differences between these types of skis?

K2's-- One Luv vs. Lotta Luv vs. possibly Burnin' Luv
Also, I'm thinking I read somewhere that K2's ski long...??

Volkls--Aire, Luna, possibly Fuego (although it may be too stiff??)

Dynastars--Active, Carve, EL (more of a pow ski, isn't it?)

Nordica- Drive (tried the Victory, didn't especially like it)

A local ski shop has a great price on the K2 Burnin' Luv...$410, but I think they only had a 160 or some such in that ski....maybe too long for that type of ski although my Salomons are fine at 162....and shop also had a shorter BL demo (157??) for even less. I never got to demo the BL so I have never been on a K2 at all.

Reason I'm thinking of another type of ski is that while I love my Origins, i've realized they DO ski quite differently from what I was used to with my old Nordicas.....they don't seem to let me get away with as much in terms of form (they let me know when I'm too far back!)....they require more of me as a skier in certain ways, although I see that as a good thing in terms of advancement. I think I got too complacent and sometimes sloppy on my old Nordicas. I can turn the Salomons quickly if need be, but it requires a lot more effort to make tight turns than I first realized. Mostly they like to do bigger, wider turns. So I'm back to the narrower waisted ski idea for more relaxed groomer runs, and I realized I actually do like to make a lot of tighter turns as well as wider ones.

K2 One Luv is very nice. Lots of Divas here like that one. I skied one in 163, and I'm 5'10" 165lb. I could have gone longer, though.

Dynastar Exclusive line (Fluid) might totally fit your bill. Most of the Exclusive line is turn turn turn, zero effort (or so it seems). They ski "short" so don't undersize. I have an older pair of Exclusive 10's (don't recall model replacement name) - these skis turn by themselves, and on a dime. Waist is 68. NARROW. Great groomer ski, for sure.

I have a pair of burnin luvs that are great in the moguls and ice but poor in crud and spring skiing conditions. I bought a pair of Volkl Attiva Tierras and love them because they do everything well. I also tried out the bandits and loved them too but wasn't sure they'd be great for the east.

Mmm, interesting. I like my Burnin' Luvs better in the ice, crud & spring conditions and like by Lotta Luvs better in powder, crud, bumps & trees.

I'm 5'2", 120-125#, advanced skier...fairly assertive to almost agressive at times. My Burnin' Luvs are 160s and my Lotta Luvs are (were!) 153s.

Remember that K2 is one of the brand that does not measure tip to tip...they measure ONLY the skiable area. So, my 153s are very similar to a 160 in another brand (ie: Rossis)

K2's also "look" longer, for the reason that Skinurse mentioned, being that 1. they measure only surface area that touches the snow, 2. they curve the tails up a bit for better backward mobility.

I have the K2 One Luv's <I'm 5'8"> in a 160, and they are longer than my BF's Volkl's in a 163... but the actual surface area seems to be about the same. In fact, I'm almost wishing I would have gotten the Volkl's in a 167... but they are beginner skis, so they'll work for now.

So you can see, that even though the Volkl's measurement is "longer", they actually aren't.

I LOVE my K2 One Luvs. I'm 125 (usually) and 5'6" and I ski on a 167 of K2's! I LOVE them!!!!!!!

I just got the Lotta Luvs in 167, but I haven't skied them yet. I'm excited!

I would Highly recommend the One Luvs for an all mountain ski. I think SkiNurse would say the same for her Burnins (still thriving) and Lottas (may they rest in peace! )

I tried the lotta luvs too and they are great! I almost bought them instead of the volkl attiva tierras.

I have the True Luvs, and DO luv them! They're kind of intermediate, and IMO happiest on groomed "pretty" snow. I can't decide if they don't like bumps, or if I don't "get" them yet.

I have demo'd Lotta and Tough Luvs, and luv them too! As Ski Nurse said -- powder, off trail, not so "pretty" snow. My challenge is picking one of them -- and finding them in the size I want (and price I like!)

CMCM - I ski Tahoe too. I bought a pair of BLs in February. I love them on hard pack, in the bumps and for the groomers. I skiied them in the steeps (Northstar Stampede) and they were good in the ice crud but too narrow at the waist if the powder was softer and/or deeper. My ski season got cut short because of an injury so I didn't get to see how they held up in the corn and the slush. I know several other women who swear by the Lottas. I decided to not go that route because I have a pair of two year old Phats that are great all around except for the ice. I wanted a ski more specific for hard pack and the BL are perfect for my quiver. Good luck with your purchase!

Another vote for Burnin Luvs (160). I can't say they are better than others, but they are great on groomers and they love to turn.
