Hi Divas, haven't been around for a bit (typical summer) but we ran into some mega-markdown skis last week and so I'm back!

I have my own boots, and wasn't planning on getting skis...until I saw this particular sale. I have 2 choices:

1. Volkl Lunas 156 cm
2. K2 True Luvs 160 cm

My bootfitter is crazy about the True Luv. I am an advanced beginner-intermediate skier, good on greens and working on blues. I am hoping to progress to single blacks at some point, but not this year - I know I need LOTS more hours. I am still a cautious skier, but I am improving and building confidence every time (surprising myself sometimes!). I've skied on Volkls and loved them, and skied on Rossis and hated them.

I can get either pair with Marker 10.0 bindings for under $250, with a guarantee that if after I ski them for three days I don't like them, I can bring them back and exchange them for something else. This means I'll just have to make time in November or December to ski locally, yippee!!

They also have K2 First Luvs and Sweet Luvs, but my bootfitter thinks I'd progress out of them (as well as the Volkl Oceana) before I really got my money's worth.

Divas, what do you think? I'm willing to take the chance since I can bring them back - which pair would you get? Or are there other Volkls I should see if they have? Thanks so much for your help!!

ETA - I'm 5'8" tall and about 200 (which I'm working on, stupid thyroid).

I have not had the pleasure of demoing either of these skis, but I do know something of the properties of the ski brands.

That said, I really like the edge hold of the Volkl's in comparison to the K2's.
If edge hold is what you're looking for then by all means, get the Luna.

I can't see you having regrets

I agree, I'd go with the Volkls. I thought I wanted Luvs but they didn't ski nicely for me, liked Volkls much better and I'm a larger skier as well.

Another "larger" skier here.

I hated the K2s that I've skied, and you can see how I feel about the Volkls . Admittedly, I rarely ski slowly and that has something to do with it, too.

I don't know the luna but the true luv is a great aspiring advanced ski, nice all mountain feel sinks a bit in powder, but this is a good ski.
good prices.

Well, I ended up with the True Luv because they couldn't find the Luna in my size throughout the chain. But if I don't like them after I ski on them I can exchange them, so that's good!

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll let you know how they ski once I've tried them.

I'm shorter -- 5'4" and was heavier. I bought the True Luvs about four years ago, and I've loved them! I might be "outgrowing" them now, but I think I'll still enjoy them until I figure out what the next right ski is for me.

Thanks Karen - I'm just hoping to get more solid on blues this year, and it really sounds like the True Luvs will last me for some time. If I can ever say I'm outgrowing them as far as ability/skill level, I'll be ecstatic.

Oh yes, I think you'll enjoy them for a while. I finally took them on black slopes last season, and they're okay on those runs too -- I kinda just want "more power," y'know?

A little late to the party, but I'm another True Luv. Bought 'em at an end-of-season sale last year and was able to get a few days on 'em.

So far, I'm very happy. I'm an intermediate skier, very comfortable on the blues and easier blacks. I haven't tried them out on a solid black yet.

Like you, I was advised to skip on the lower level Luvs and am very happy I did.
