so, where is the snow?

Here at Mt Sutton it's open this Easter weekend but only just! All the snow is melted except on the pistes which have enough artificial snow base to remain open. I expect it's similar at Jay Peak. For me the season ended a couple of weeks ago. But we'll enjoy the annual "snow on the beach" festival

So, where is the snow?.........Heading down the creeks right quick!

Alas, it was a beautiful cold winter, that held snow we had in the Northeast, but not a ton of snow, and it is going quick.

Spring Bash/Pond Skim/Egg Hunt at Saddleback this weekend, and Bronco Buster challenge next, but not sure we'll get much more beyond that. It is just the groomers with a built up base left, and some of them are getting dodgy.

I typically don't want to "commute" on a ski trip either since I also have to commute to a mountain here at home, and that's not my ideal ski trip. I found I didn't mind the drive from Banff to LL at all, though, and I suspect it's because it was so beautiful and quiet. Typically after skiing on the way back I would make scenic detours or stop at pull-outs. I saw or herd of bighorn sheep that way. But I think @mustski you are saying you did the shuttle all week. I think that would have gotten old for me too.

I'm thinking I'll head up to Summit later this week. There's some snow in the forecast and honestly this might be my last chance to get out this season, which is nuts. I can't go the following weekend and barring some sort of snow miracle (which isn't in the forecast) I'm not sure many places will still be open once we get into late April. A LOT melted with the warm temps over the last few weeks and I'm very also just very curious to see the situation up there first hand.

Well, there's definitely not a lot of snow up there. The res is as low as I've ever seen it. Hard to believe what the skiing is like right now given that I usually do some of my favorite skiing of the year from late March to early May.

Happy to say that the recent dump in LCC/BCC means that the coverage at Alta is pretty good on the type of terrain that I and my friends like to ski. It's the steeper terrain that is very thin, or completely brown. More Divas and friends arriving today and tomorrow.

Tremblant has only closed one major area (the Edge) and most of the tree runs. But it still looks good.
With my sprained wrist I don't think I'm going to get to be able to ski again this year.

I was at Tremblant today and skiing was excellent. Despite some closures, we skied all day (me from 9 til after 3 with an hour for lunch), never doing the same run twice. And we were skiing pretty fast.

Palisades is postponing the pond skim this upcoming weekend. Too cold / too much snow. Nice problem to have

Not taking many pictures, but the coverage is still good at Alta. However, the warm weather means very few people are skiing after lunch.

Will be quite a change this weekend with a cold storm system coming on.

I mentioned earlier that Tremblant is still good. (Well, it was as of Wednesday when I was last there.) What I forgot to mention was that I almost had a collision. Not with a person, nor with any inanimate object. I was skiing along a flattish section at the bottom of the North side, going fast and practising nice carves (as no one else in sight) when a squirrel ran out onto the trail. He was going fast and I was going fast – and for a bit we seemed to be on a collision oourse. Fortunately I missed him (or he me) by a hair. Could have been messy!
