Snowboarding teens in UT/Ogden

Hi,

I have a random question.

This season I am staying with friends in Ogden, UT for a ski trip. My 17 year old and her BF will be joining us over the first weekend of the new year but they only have an Ikon Base Pass and they will be snowboarding.

I think they will want to ski 3 days Fri-Sat-Sunday but plan to couch surf with us in Ogden to save money. It seems like a few options are:

1. Wake up super early and haul over to Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird to be covered under their Ikon pass. I am just worried about them driving all the way back to us after a long day or if the weather is dumping (please let it be dumping)

2. Buy day pass for Snowbasin for the three days, or maybe wait till black friday and see if they have 3 day deals, but this seems pricey

3. Upgrade to Ikon Base Plus, also seems pretty pricey for a single park.

These are two teens who are paying their way so they are being budget conscious. Are there any other hidden nuggets I may be missing here that can give them a good deal? Ski Utah works for 6th graders I wasn't sure if there was something for teens 17/18 year olds.

Also, is snowbasin a decent place for snowboarding? I've never been and my daughter has only been snowboarding for two seasons so she's a solid beginner and a pretty good natural (unlike her mama) but she shouldn't be hitting anything too crazy her BF has significantly more experience. We will see if this trip makes or breaks their relationship ha ha ha.

Thanks in advance!

Snowbasin is a fun boarder's mountain with a wide range of terrain for all skill levels. And the facility is world class. People take pictures of the glamorous bathrooms. I just found this current info:

Ikon Pass - Snowbasin

5 days ago: Snowbasin Resort offers up to seven days of unrestricted access to Ikon Pass holders and their friends and family with 25% off day window tickets. Learn more about the Ikon Pass benefits, blackout dates, partner lodging, and how to max out your pass at Snowbasin.

Powder Mountain (across the valley) is more challenging due to wide variety of terrain - lots of it undulating (meaning some flatter areas and long run outs to reach some of the great terrain). Not a beginner friendly mountain due in large part to how massive it is - not easy to navigate. Note: Powder does not take any mega passes.

Transportation: There's great UTA ski bus service from Ogden up to both Snowbasin and Powder (each has their own route for ski buses).
I've been here 7 years and even with free passes, I haven't skied Cottonwood canyons. It's a hellish drive from Ogden (or SLC for that matter). If they want to play on snow, not sit in traffic, ride in Ogden Valley.

Thanks for that info! The bus may be a good alternative for them if they decide to do showbasin. The kids only have Ikon base pass so it looks like they would need to upgrade base plus to go to snow basin. They may just trek it to one of the ikon base locations from the place I am staying at in Eden. I know it’s a pain but to 18 year olds not having to shell out more beyond ikon base plus is worth it.

powder mountain is too pricey for the day passes so that is out. Plus I do find it super beginner friendly for skiers because there is so much green terrain but the flat surfaces would suck for snowboarders.

Thanks for the tips!
