Snow strategies.

Anyone have any rituals they do to get it to start snowing? Some kind of a snow dance? Maybe you wash the car? Or schedule some kind of warmish weather thing?

Not to be too superstitious, but if you have anything, post it here so we can all give it a try.

Hubby and I used to belong to a travelling ski club. In the fall they'd have a corn roast. As it got dark there would be a bonfire. The first thing to be burnt would be old skis. Sacrifice to the snow gods. We still do this but after our Thanksgiving and on "bad ski movie night" with new friends, which was last Saturday. Chili, beer, wine (too much) and Warren Millers Bloopers and Ski School 2.

Doesn't y'all figure that the more often you check the weather reports online, the more likely you will see a report predicting snow? No snow forecasts? Just keep looking...you just may find one lurking in some out-of-theh-way website of some skimaniacweatherpredictor.

So that's what I do. LOOK FERVENTLY. Often.

Ya Moll, get going on that! :D :D

Other things we do:
We watch lots of ski movies.

Also, my family celebrates Winter Solstice, which includes a bonfire and making a harvest soup over the bonfire out of items everyone brought. Part of the bonfire ritual requires each person to wish for something good he/she wants to come into his/her life in the new year, then adding their food to the soup, and to "let go" of something that he/she is struggling with by writing it on a piece of paper and burning it in the fire. We add a communal wish for a bountiful winter of snow!

It is pretty neat, isn't it? Makes sense that skiers celebrate winter! BTW, eating the soup made of food that everyone brought and added with "good wishes" is supposed to pass those good wishes/vibes onto everyone who eats the soup. We use a humongous pot to cook it, so there's usually a lot left over. We each take some home and often share it with friends. Passes on those good wishes... ;)

You're allowed to look at all the weather reports you want. But you must assume all forecasts for snow are over-optimistic or completely false until it actually happens. Planning on it, bragging about it, or declaring it a powder day beforehand is guaranteed to jinx the storm and it won't happen.

My husband took his skis in last night to get the bindings moved from his old skis to his new skis. It'll snow while he's got nothing to ski on.

For sure. That's the other rule. If you can't ski due to work, injury, missing/broken/otherwise unusable equipment, or have to fly back home for some family obligation - it's virtually guaranteed to be a powder day.

Bogus Basin HAD a snow dance scheduled for the first weekend in November here in Boise.

TPTB cancelled it.

Now there's no snow, and when it has snowed, it's been followed by warm weather and plenty of rain to wash it all away......

THAT'LL TEACH 'EM !!!

I like to try and make Murphy work for me. For instance, I just went out and purchased a head collar for my roommate's overly aggressive dog with the intention of taking him out for many hikes before the snow hits...

OOH, Jaydog, good plan!

Have you had it on the beastie yet? I remember the first time we put one on our Sneak -- he went ballistic for a bit, but then settled down and even a kindergartener could handle him with that collar on. Those things are SO cool!

I don't know if it will bring the snows, but you and the beast will have a grand time!

Took him out yesterday. He promptly tried to paw it off, but eventually I was able to walk him to the end of the block and back with little trouble. There's a ways to go yet. (Hear that Murphy? Considerably more time needed)
