Writing from Smuggler's Notch. www.smuggs.com We took our kids here last summer and loved it and the runs looked so great that we vowed to come back and spring ski when 2 of our kids were on spring break from their middle school. Most of the snow was lost due to the rain earlier this week, so not much is open and there is plenty of slush, along with ice, rocks, and bare spots, but it's still a great time and I can't wait to come back and ski more of the mountain. It's a small community, very laid back, nice resort. We're renting a gorgeous 3 bedroom unit ski in ski out and my 13 year old daughters were able to head out and ski/ride alone for the first time which they loved.
For any of you with small children, Smuggler's looks like an amazing place for them to learn to ski. There are tons of other things to do here as well, so it's the ultimate family resort. The lifts are old-fashioned doubles, impeccably maintained, slow, but authentic. The greens are more challenging than in Southern VT, and the black trails (mostly closed now) look really interesting and gnarly at points. There are a lot of blue gladed areas that I would like to try out sometime. At the top of Madonna mountain, you can see Stowe over the notch and Sugarbush farther away to the West. Overall a much more interesting VT ski area than the Southern VT resorts that I frequent on day trips. I highly recommend it.
My only regret is that today is Diva day at Okemo and I missed it!
