Skis for Husband

While at Breckenridge last week my husband demo'd some K2 Comanche skis and he really liked them. He's in need of some new gear so I figured I'd keep my eye open for some and gather info for him for next year (hopefully sooner).

The skis he demo'd were 160 which really surprised me. He's 6'2" and 195 lbs! Couldn't believe they gave him 160's but figured they knew what they were doing (or didn't have longer??). Anyone know anything about these skis? I think they were COM3s but I'm thinking of watching for COM4s too. I searched for some info on them at Epic but came up with nothing.

First of all you started off wrong. After all the men posting on Epic with threads like Need to find skis for the Wifey-poo your title should be something more like, Looking for skis for the stud muffin:D

At his height and weight I'd have thought they'd put him on something a bit longer too. I'd have thought he'd be better suited for something in the 170 ish range, at least.

The comanche3 is an intermediate ski, that has some nice properties that will allow him to grow and not out grow the ski too fast. I'm sure he found the turn initiation and energy to be a hoot. He won't want to stay on them indefinitely, and the 4 may follow him longer, but its definitely a good ski to take an intermediate skier to an advanced level.

Hi,
My husband has skied some of the K2s and he liked them. I was just at the K2 website and checked the specs. The com3 is 112/68/97, that is tip, waist, tail width and a 15 meter radius at 167cm. The com4 is 119/72/103 and 14 meter radius at 167 cm. This means that the com3 is a bit narrower than the com4. The Com 4 will be better in powder because it is wider. They each have a small difference in the radius meaning the com3 will be more GS and the com4 will go GS or slalom based on how you ski it. The question you need to ask is where do you ski the most, east or west, and how well does he ski. As ski instructors my husband and I recommend he be on a 165cm or 167cm, depending on the brand you go with, in a 14 or 15 meter radius. If you go to the K2 website you can compair all the skis. I hope this helps.

Snowhot---don't all those guys on Epic like to talk about how fast they go, how long their . . . .skis are and how studly they are? All of their equipment discussion are rousts--mine is better than yours!!

Thanks ladies. I just couldn't resist posting a "skis for my husband" question since you see so many "skis for the little lady" posts on epic.

I'm gong to keep my eyes open for Com 3 & 4 in a 167 length on after season sales. I think Com 3 will be good--we don't ski often and we never know where--depending on where Uncle Sam puts us. But it seems that East coast happens more often then west so I'm leaning towards a ski for ice rather than powder.

Heck--anything is better than his old straight skis. Although he was happy with them until I bought new ones this year and he saw how much I loved them. So now it's his turn--the little stud muffin ;) .
