Skiing Loveland in October?

So... my husband, lifelong Red Sox fan that he is, has determined that if things work out he wants to see a game in the final series of the season. Now tickets in Boston for post season action are hard to come by and extremely expensive so he's thinking he might want to fly out to Denver. His justification is that airfare, hotel and ticket combined will probably cost the same as just a ticket to the game here.

So that was ok.. then I kept seeing these pictures and radar images of snow in Colorado... so now my ski-itis is fully flared up so I jokingly say he can go as long as I go and go skiing - this of course before I look at actual ski reports. So I've just been looking at ski reports. The most feasible would seem to be Loveland - reasonable distance from Denver and they've got 5 trails open as of today. My question... is it worth it? It's probably gonna run $500-600+lift tix for me to make this happen (this is additional cost over him going alone), so give me your honest opinion. Should I just suck up and wait till december, or should I be financially irresponsible? If the vote comes down to "go" then you can all advise me on the skis I bring or not :P

Well, I drove by Loveland last Thursday and it looked pretty sparse! They did, however get about 9 inches or more of snow up there today and the snow machines are blasting.

The conditions at Loveland, in my humple opinion, are not quite the best ever.....icy, cold, right ON the Continental Divide....

But if you ARE coming, then I would bring my "rock" skis. There were quite a few boulders showing!

Have you seen any of the live camera shots?

One more thing....it is next to IMPOSSIBLE to get tickets in Denver right now! This town is NUTS for the "PURPLE!"

So, be REALLY sure that you can get World Series Tickets before you even think about the skiing part!

Just a heads up!

Well... about 10:00am MDT will know...

I'll have to keep watching those reports, but since A-Basin is the only other area open and they persist with only 1 trail (which looked like a madhouse when I was watching the live cam last weekend)... Any news of more snow storms for this week?

If you get the A-Basin pass and are planning on coming back you might as well go ahead and upgrade so you can ski Breck, Kaystone and Vail.

You can get a Loveland 4 pack for $109. It's a strip of tickets so all tickets can be used on the same day.

If you could ski during the week it would be less crowded. Last year I skied at A-Basin Nov. 1st, they had 2 runs open, and there was no lift line. We skied Copper on their opening day, a weekend and there were lines in the afternoon.

I tend to get very bored with only a couple of runs, I last a couple of hours, and wouldn't bother if I didn't have season passes.

However, if you want to brag that you skied in Oct. then its worth it.

Did your husband get tickets? The system went down after 1 hr and only 500 tickets were sold. The Rockies organization is still trying to figure out what to do. Hopefully, they'll know by the 10 pm news.

I actually did that and my husband got the same for himself, as a commitment to me that he'll take an actual vacation with me this year. I'm so excited! He never takes a vacation, and we're getting too old to not take time to enjoy our time with each other!

So my husband didn't manage tickets yesterday and decided it's not worth it to try again so no Colorado trip for us... Guess I'll just have to wait till April to ski in the Rockies. I'll just have to wait until December to get skiing again:(

Did you hear that they had a breakdown in the ticket sales system. Maybe you can be the good wife and surprise him with tickets!!!

nah... we're saving the money. we'll be in denver in early april so I can wait. Plus the whole bar with locals I'm not so sure we'd be welcome - my husband is a RedSox fan and by the sounds of some of the sports forums he wouldn't be too popular out there...

Ahhhh...Most Coloradans (and by MOST I mean those of us who have been here ALL of our lives!) are very kind, generous and welcoming people! We may root for our teams....but we like a good debate with "the other side"!

I'd welcome ya'!
