Skiing in Kansas??!!!

Could happen. Just read that an indoor ski slope is being considered for the flat-as-an-ironing-board state. I understand ones are also being built in New Jersey and Las Vegas. Is this a trend?

Ha, this reminds me of a scene from a Warren Miller film (don't remember which one), where some kids on some farm in Nebraska made a ski jump.

If the ski slopes aren't there, bring the slopes to you, I guess.

The kids were actually cheese heads from Wisconsin. Just like Iowa, I'm not sure Nebraska gets enough snow any more to even cover a jump.
I could see an indoor ski slope being built in the Kansas City area. Thye just put in a waterski/wakeboard cable park that is going over very well.

ummmm,,..... the only horizon in Kansas is a flat horizon. ok, slightly curved. Ya'd think as tall as the Rockies are, you could see them from west Kansas, but you can't. You can seen an occasional tree though. :help:

Seriously???!!!!!

That's lazy! Just drive on through to Colorado!

Have any of you actually driven from Kansas to the hills in Colorado? I did once, & thought I'd never get there!! If I lived in Kansas, I'd probably think about building my own ski hill, too, lest I die of boredom. (Oops, sorry any Kansans)

Yes, we drove through Kansas last year on our way to Vail (detour to visit some relatives). It is nasty! If you ever have 2 days of vacation and need 2 weeks, just spend those 2 days in central Kansas, and it will feel like 2 weeks.
Our usual route is Nebraska. It is almost as bad, but at least there is a Micky Ds and a gas station every 30 miles through Nebraska.

I thought Nebraska was bad enough. Never been to Kansas. I guess I won't be in a hurry to go there just yet.

I dated a proud Kansan and had the privilege of going there a few years ago. It's like any other part of rural America (like my hometown in the northeast), except in other parts of rural America, you run into a decent sized-city after driving a while and there is interesting topography.
