Skier killed at 7 Springs

I don't know if this was posted else where like Epic or Bear but I just heard about it today so...

A local skier was killed when he collided with a snowboarder and ran head first into a snowblower. It happened at 7 Springs on Saturday, February 10th. He died at UPMC Presby the following Wednesday.

Here's a link to a news story. https://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07047/762595-287.stm

I was at 7 Springs the day after and heard nothing of it. I guess that's a good thing in a way. Plus, I ski that run A LOT. It's a nice trail actually. It's only the 3rd tragedy of this kind to happen at 7 Springs since it opened 70 years ago. My condolences go out to his family int his time of tragedy.

What a tragedy! How sad when someone goes out for a day of fun, only to have it turn deadly.

This sort of thing happens from time to time in every sport, and it just emphasizes how important it is to be vigilant of what's going on around you (not that that would've necessarily made the difference here).

My heart goes out to his family.

This is so very sad. People colliding with one another on the ski hill is by far my most hated and feared thing about our sport. It is something that is so easily avoided if skiers and snowboarders alike would just pay attention to what is going on around them. As a skier who has been hit I can say from experience that it is very painful and scary. I was blind sided. I remember being on the ground in pain and there was blood in the snow. My tooth had gone through my lip and to this day I stiil can feel the scar in my upper lip. I wish we could find away to explain to people that ski and snowboard out of control how dangerous they are being to themselves and the rest of us around them. Just yesterday I was almost hit twice, one was a kid, on skis, heading for a jump on the side of the trail, the other was an adult male that clipped the back of my skis as he skied by me out of control. I hope we can all take a lesson from this horrilbe tragety and try to educate any skiers and snowboarders we know that ski or ride out of control to stay in control. We all love this sport and none of wants to die because someone else was careless.

I send my condolences to his family and friends.

This is exactly why I stay away from the larger Vermont resorts during peak holiday times. I recall that last February at Okemo, a 79 year old man in good health skiing with his wife was killed when he collided with a snowboard instructor. The instructor was apparently devastated by the accident, which sounded like it was related to crowds more than skiing or riding out of control. All you Okemo Divas probably know more about this event.

I saw two young snowboarders collide with a loud crack at Berkshire East in Charlemont on Saturday as I rode on the lift above the scene. The girls who was hit had the wind knocked out of her and was writhing in pain. I heard she was ok after all, but it makes me nervous for my safety and the safety of my kids.
