Skier in backcountry dies in Aspen today.

Very sad news to report. This was just released in the papers, it happened today at around 11:30. No names released yet...but we know he was a local kid, 23 years old. He hucked a cliff in the Tonar Bowl while in the backcountry. He was an amazing skier and this is just devastating to our community. They were doing a film shoot for a ski movie.

What an awful year for these tragedies. Coincidentally, today's Aspen Times published an article about how Aspen escaped fatalities this season. Couldn't they have waited until the season was actually over?? I hate the Aspen Times, they suck in general.

I've never conversed with him, but I've read Weems at Epicski as if his words were gospel.

I wasn't sure when or if it was in the public, but was informed of how closely this tragedy hit the EpicSki Family by Spindrift and his lovely wife Cloudpeak.

I am in tears as I type this, knowing that this tragedy touches a man whose heart of gold must be breaking.

For those who are not familiar with Weems, he is an ESA coach and intricate part of the EpicSki community.
I consider him a close friend.
He has touched the lives of many whom he has coached with his spiritual connection to the movements of skiing

I was so terribly sorry to read about that. Weems' spirit shines so brightly, and I always envisioned that same spirit in his family. Loss of a child is always tragic. I'm truly sorry for his family's loss, but am thankful for their strength and positivity, and hope for it to help them through their grief.
