Does anyone have any direct knowledge about this clinic? It's a bit different but seems to be highly recommended.

Thanks Wendy. I appreciate you're looking. I have been writing to Kristen Ulmer and I think if I can swing it, I may go (which of course also puts me in Utah before and after the Diva gathering...so...). Just have to figure out how to get Mr. SS to sign up for my doing all of this.

I'm a little skeptical. First - the prices, to me are absolutely INSANE. Maybe I don't spend enough time in spas, but even without lodging - it's over $1500 for 3 days!!

And I'm not sure I'm grasping what's going on there either. You're skiing with her, but she said it's not for you if you want technical input on your skiing. ? I know a lot of skiing is mental. And when I've done ski camps that focus on the technical, a lot of that IS discusion of mentally dealing with things, preparing, visualizing, etc.

I'd have to have a LOT of spare cash to blow to be willing to spend that much money on something as intangible as this sounds to me.

I don't know anyone who's done one of her camps though - so maybe they are as good as the glowing reviews on her website.

The description on the web site reminds me of the marketing for est, the secretive experiential group of the early/mid-eighties--a lot of fluff without a true description of what goes on. As for the cost, camps in Little Cottonwood Canyon do run high, but this one is definitely higher than the norm, especially considering you get a ski coach only four hours per day. Personally, I'd be looking for something with more emphasis on the actual skiing.

I was interested in this clinic at the end of last ski season. Like you, I contacted Kristin Ulmer and she was really cool. She gave me her phone number so that I could call her and ask questions about the clinic. To me, it sounded like a really good clinic in that the things you practice in the clinic are more related to how one handles everyday challenges in life - not just skiing. From what I was able to understand about it, most of the emphasis is on yoga and the evening get togethers with the spiritual coach. So, if you're looking for a clinic that is only focusing on ski technique, this is likely not the clinic for you. If I had the money and the time, I would love to take this clinic. However, when I was first interested, I was thinking about a clinic on double-black-diamonds to push the envelope of my skiing comfort zone.

I'm a bit lazy to look closely at the descriptions. But I'll say this. While it's not for me personally, I would not discount it for others .

Many divas here went through some sort of "empowerment through skiing" at one time or another. And many of us are a different person than we were before. Now, imagine you can have that "enlightenment" moment as soon as you're ready without having to grope at the dark for years! It can indeed change your life. And that sounds exactly like what the clinic was about, from what I can gather.

When you feel the clinic speaks to your heart, that's when you're ready to make a life change. And the clinic is an excellent venue to promote that change.

For the rest of us, moeny issue aside, maybe we already gone through that change and found the clinic a bit "light" for our taste. Or you're merely "not there" yet.

I have no association with the clinic. I haven't taken one either. But I can see why it would appeal to some women. And for those who're at the right moment of their life, it maybe money very well spend.

I've done three different camps in Little Cottowood - all at a cost of about $500 or less for three full days with coaches, video analysis, and classes in the evenings, and snacks/alcohol, but not full meals. Now I know that doesn't include full meals and this does, but even with lodging excluded, that's a difference of $1000. And an extra $1000 for lodging also seems nutty to me for such a short event, even in the canyon.

I know the emphasis is totally different. And obviously there are people it appeals to and who are willing to spend that kind of money. I'm just cheap, apparently! ;)

AG, QQ,Lisaski, abc and SD,
Thank you all for your input. I know the intentions behind your posts and I appreciate the good thoughts.
I am at a definite cross road in my life. I am in the middle of a potential career transition and I have no idea what is on the other side. At this moment, for reasons I don't want to fully explain, I am questioning what the most important things in life are to me. I love to ski and I want to improve. This clinic could help but it is geared to focus on much more than that. I honestly don't know how effective it is and was hoping I might find someone (or someone who knew someone) who had been through it. It's not a matter of having money to burn, it's a matter of looking for ways to clarify what I want to do with the rest of my life. I will leave it at that.

All the very best to all of you,

Thanks AG, I appreciate the good wishes. I'm actually looking at the Park City camp (not Alta)..thinking it would be less expensive...but pricing isn't determined yet.

In any case, this is is an open question. I appreciate your offerring perspectives/info.

The camp that was recommended most to me based on personal experience with it was Kim Reichelm's clinic (skiing and pampering). But that clinic is $2250 w/out lodging and lodging is $500-$600/night (4 day clinic)...that seems like approx. $5K not including flight...
so not likely to do that one.

Another one highly recommended based on one person's experience are the ski weeks at Taos.

Kristin Ulmer's clinic does have a totally different focus and I'm trying to figure out whether it would really be helpful (i.e. not only w/Skiing but with larger questions).
So, still trying to find an actual person who has been to one........to hear what it was really like!

All the best,

This is one camp I'd love to do. But alas, a bit too pricey for me, as well.

Spirit ,

I don't have any first hand. I have seen her clinics recommended on some websites that are not connected to her. I was just reviewing this article for you, maybe will give you a little insight if you haven't already read it. From where you have spoken you are at, I'm guessing your intuition is leading yoiu where you need to be. Don't overthink or second guess yourself too much. https://www.utahsportsmag.com/past-issues/v2n02/stories/ulmer.htm

Clouds,
Thanks for referencing the article. I hadn't read it and appreciated it. Probably have a little bit of time to make a decision. Money isn't unlimited but I have saved some up and this is one of those times where making use of it makes total sense.
I like what was said in that article, that she thought her experiences with extreme skiing had led her to put together the clinics...which was ultimately more satisfying than anything that had come before.
I am planning to make this next season one to remember. Will keep you all posted......
Many, many thanks Clouds.............

She's good!

Yea,

That really strikes to the way I feel about it too.
