Ski Reports.

Where do you find the most accurate ski reports? I get a daily update from my local mountain, but they always put the happiest face on everything, so it's not especially trustworthy. Checking in with people here and Epic is also a good way to go. But does anyone have any other sources?

Here's one that's pretty interesting:

I can agree with SkiDiva about the mountain/resort reports. As a friend once said about resort life - its La La land here. Nothing bad happens here. I check a number of websites for conditions. For my home mountain of Tremblant I check in with the Tremblant-insider.com. JB007 (who could be TJ on some other boards - Killington etc) lives there and skis everyday. He tells it like it is. He does the "honest snow report" daily after the ski day is finished and recently has been adding pictures to his report. Being on his forum I know that this information and other things he passes along have helped many people. He also will do tours for groups. Last year at this time the union struck the mountain. Tremblant-insider was the only way to get information as to the status of things. The official website just talked about the fact that things were limited due to the strike. JB was able to talk to management and union people to get the insider info on how the talks were happening etc. He posted on the forum the end of the strike even before the Tremblant website had the information.

Huh, I bought those rustic trail signs from snowsource ... love 'em! Didn't know they did snow reports.

I don't know about snow reports, but usually they are close enough for me. I mean, if conditions are going to be sketchy, it will be obvious. If 12 in. new are reported, but there are only 6 in reality, who cares. It's still good.

Of course, I'm in Colorado, and snow conditions are generally pretty decent compared to a lot of places. "Sketchy" for us means the snow might make a little bit of noise. What we call "icy" is NOT really icy.

I'm more concerned about weather reports ... my brother (11-yr pro patrol vet) always told me that the most accurate weather reports are those put out by the Colorado Avalanche Info Center.

Click on the region you're interested in, and then find more specific info from there.

After checking the website or snow phone, I sometimes call the front desk of a hotel, but prefer to talk to a local ski shop for the straight scoop.
