Ski Movies - The good, the bad, and the ugly.

So, my husband and I are channel surfing this evening and we stumble upon the Sci-Fi channel, which is playing a movie called Ice Spiders.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0840304/

Talk about a really bad, bad ski movie. Some government scientists experiment on spiders, who . . . of course . . . get loose in a small ski town. There are giant man-eating spiders on the chair lifts and such. With skiers on the bunny hill being attacked by giant spiders! LOL :ski2: Gotta ski really fast to get away from them ice spiders.

It made me think of other movies with skiing themes like Better off Dead.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088794/

Which has a ski race between John Cusiak and his nemesis. I also seem to remember that one of the James Bond movies had a ski race in it, although I can't remember the movie.

What do you think about movies with skiing? The good ones? The bad ones? The ugly ones?

Yup - next weekend - Bad Ski Movie Night!! Can I add Fire and Ice - Willy Bogner.....Susie......

As for James Bond, there are few with ski scenes in them. With and without proper ski equipment. How about the skis off the ski-doo!! That was a Canadian stunt skier - Jon Eaves I think. And the jump off the ski jump. Parasailing with skis. Many of them.

It's funny, because I keep meaning to watch "Ice Spiders" because they filmed it at Solitude and I think we know a bunch of the skiers in the movie.

Though I'm sure the movie itself is truly horrible! ;)

We were trying to figure out where they filmed Ice Spiders! Solitude you say?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Better Off Dead.

In our ski movie collection, we have:
Hot Dog = a whole new meaning to "ski porn" Never saw it before, bought it because the guys on AZ were always raving about it... not a fave
Ski School = dorky 80s ski movie, your typical guy comedy, not too terrible though, just a little hokey
Out Cold = I like this one, even if it is more of a snowboard movie
Winter Break = This is one of my fave ski movies. Kid graduates college and follows his friends out West for what's supposed to be a couple days, turns into a whole winter. Falls in love, finds a new life for himself. The acting isn't bad, it's cute, and nice message.
Snowball Express = classic Disney movie, guy inherits a hotel in Silver Springs, CO; quits his job, moves the family out west, has no idea that the hotel is defunct and badly in need of repairs. Even though he's never skied before, decides to turn it into a ski resort. It's very hokey, but nice to have a movie we can watch with the kids.

This is, of course, on top of the actual ski movies that are intended as such: Wanderland, Soul Purpose, Head for the Hills, Lost and Found, Schooled, etc, etc, etc.

Lots of James Bond movies had skiing in them. I recall On her Majesties Secret Service had some great skiing in it, which is my favourite Bond movie.

I admit to owning Aspen Extreme on VHS, and actually liking it.
I've never seen Ice Spiders. Shall I assume that its not something I want to experience?

If you can find this one (good luck....), it's worth a viewing just to watch Killy skiing the glacier. Otherwise, a rather bad movie:

"Snow Job" - 1972
starring Jean-Claude Killy
"In this offbeat crime adventure, a downhill ski instructor at an Alpine resort involves himself in a conspiracy to rob the bank that lies in the resort town nearby. The heist is a success until a dogged insurance investigator threatens to reveal their identities unless they give him the loot. They hand it over and then realize that he was a phony. The three decide to split up. The ski instructor boards a train and who should be on it but the bogus detective. It turns out that the two of them had been in cahoots all along. The instructor is played by Jean-Claude Killy, an Olympic Skiing champion and the detective is played by famous Italian filmmaker Vittorio De Sica."
