Ski Goggles

I am getting new Goggles because I bought a POC Skull X helmet and now I am a gapper. No good, plus its cold on my forehead . Does anyone have the POC helmet or any ideas of what Goggles work best. The goggles I currently have are really hard to see through when its really flat light. I almost wonder if I need to get two different goggles one for flat light and one for more sunny conditions. I would love any advice I could get.

Yup!!

Now for the hard part. You might just need to visit many ski shops with your helmet to find a google that fits the helmet. First go back to the shop that sold you the helmet. If they sell the helmet, they should sell a google that matches. If not, start looking around. It took me about 3 months to find a google that went with the helmet in my avitar. That google in the pic doesn't fit my face, too big, and I got frostbite on my cheeks. Oakley has many different styles of googles and I ended up with the A frame. I changed helmets and it still works. But don't limit yourself!! Take the helmet and go shopping.

Yeah I have a smaller face and hate when the goggle covers up most of my face...I have a feeling this is going to be a process.

POC helmet/goggles

I have the same helmet. (Someone told me I looked like a Q-tip; white.) I have a pair of Uvex Lady Corus. they are for small faces and fit really well with the helmet. I had the goggles long before the helmet--they offer Rx inserts--so I really need them. Also have a pair of Alpina that fit as well, but not as nicely.

No worries mine is white too! That way when it is sunny my head does not roast .

I recently bought a pair of the lavender (non divas may say purple) lens googles. I heard that they were good in low and flat light. I can report that they DO make a difference on those days. No googles can make that sun shine brighter but they are far better than the darker amber I was using.

Amberula4, Jilly is correct in that you will require at least two lens colors for both the low/flat light and sunny conditions. I use a light rose color for low light. Not red! As far as the POC helmet, my goggles fit pretty well. The real pain with the POC is that there is no true holder for the goggle strap. Also the POC is wide around the ear because it is a full ear helmet versus the pads that most others come with. I've added a Giro helmet to my ski gear and the goggles work just as well; but the difference in the strap length adjustment is quite different due to the basic width between the two helmet styles.

I wonder if you could get some sort of "goggle gasket" to cover up the extra space (I'm assuming it's between the top of your goggles ad the helmet). I got a R.E.D. helmet for Christmas, and it came with a goggle gasket that Velcros into the front of the helmet to cover any possible gap between goggles and helmet.

I bought a pair of the Smith Anthem Goggles with the gold sensor lenses last year. They worked really well for me - I have a smaller face and it is difficult to find goggles that fit me well. These work great. Unfortunately, I fell hard attempting to ski powder last year at alta and got a huge scratch on them. Until then, they were the best flat light goggles I have found.

At one time, I thought having an extra lens in a different color seemed like a good idea. It proved to be a pain in the something, and I bought another pair of goggles instead!

Actually, Spy Optics aren't altogether horrible for lens change-out. I was amazed, having seen/done others. Ones I got just came with the 2nd lens (not purchased because of), and I did make the change (indoors, at home) without incident. Not something I'd want to do on-mountain...but in a pinch, the option's available. Still better/best to have 2 distinct pairs, but if Spy becomes your fit, at least what's sold via SAC and Whiskey Militia (have pair on order for DS now) comes with 2 sets of lenses.

I love those lenses. I have the iridium lense in my Turbo Fan Goggles which is also good, but I think the gold is better in flat light.

So, I was just looking at my new Smith Variant helmet, playing around with getting the straps adjusted just so, and the gizmo at the back of the head adjusted just so, and there's been this gap between my goggles and helmet the first couple of times out, so I was looking at that too...

The liner of the helmet velcros in (nice! I can wash it!!!) and I experimented with moving it a half inch or so forward, so it hangs down a bit in the front -- this will work!

(there are seams that look like they may not last in this configuration, but I can use a different fleece headliner in there too, I'm sure, as long as it's not windbloc fleece, which would "wreck" the ventilation system)

Maybe your helmet liner can be repositioned a bit too?

Yeah I have issues with that as well with my current goggles. I just pray that they don't pop off when I am on the chair lift sometime. I did see another person the other day wearing a POC helmet that had a goggle strap holder in the back. I was almost tempted to stop them and ask where they got it, and how they got it attached. But I turned away for a second and they were gone. So the mystery remains, but it has to be a possibility.

I am excited though, I got some cash for Xmas so it looks like I will be finally picking up a pair of goggles. I think I am going to get some low light ones for now, and deal with the slight gap on my current "sun" goggles. Bring on snow skiing!!!

There are all sorts of "pads" that can be added to your helmet. Check with the shop where you bought it. If internet - well find a shop!. I have a piece that I can add to the front of my helmet to cover that area between the goggles and the helmet. I finally managed to find goggles that matched up and don't need it anymore.
