ski equipment seconds and discounters

I am thinking that one thing that might be worth knowing is if ski equipment makers sell their seconds, or blems or whatever you call them. Once in a awhile, you will see equipment at some of the larger chain stores and discounters that is on a "very special sale". I know we are all tempted from time to time to save a little money and shop these sales. Does anyone know if these offerings are/may be blems etc? They are never disclosed as such, but.....you gotta wonder.

Usually they are "deck" models. Look like the real thing, but are not.
For example Sportchek here has a Salomon boot called Performa X6. There is no "X" 6 model. Its 6. So just what is this boot? It's probably a Performa 4 made to look like a 6. They have done this with a K2 Luv skis too. Can't remember the name, but you would think that it was for real. Box stores are really big on this. Check the manufacturers website to see if the product actually existing.
That said, Hubby got a pair of skis last year from the company rep. The serial numbers don't match, but who cares!! I think that the pair is made up from a good ski from 2 pairs. The other ski may have been a warranty issue. He gets a pair cheap and company doesn't have a bunch of stuff laying around.
