Ski Clothes for short women?

Hi all:
I've been lurking for a while. I am now coming out of lurkdom to ask a few questions.

I am 5'1" and 105 lbs. I am pretty small. The dilema is this. I cannot find a ski coat or pants to fit! If I go to the kids stuff, it's not made as well and it just isn't cut for a woman's body. If I look at the women's stuff, everything is too long and usually too big. I must have tried on 10 pairs of ski pants today with no luck.

I found The North Face pants are made in short length. I have only been able to find them online. My local ski store doesn't stock them. I live in Phoenix. Anyway, here's my questions. Does anyone know if another manufacturer makes a short size for women? If so, which one(s)? Also, has anyone bought these short sizes? If so, how is the fit? Finally, I ski at Snowbird every year. Does anyone know if the local ski shops in Salt Lake stock these short sizes? I would really like to try them on before I purchase.

As an aside, I really wish I could find petite ski coats too.
TIA

Hi, trvlnut! Welcome to TheSkiDiva! Glad you decided to post.

You're about the same size as I am, so I can sympathize with your dilemma. I have an awful time finding ski pants that fit. One pair I own is actually a size 14 kids, and they fit very well (they actually cost a lot less than the adult's, so if you have to go to a kids size, you can save some money! ) I also have a pair of size 4 short Markers, which are really great. I bought them at a ski shop in Breckenridge, though I can't remember which one. Anyway, they weren't easy to find, so you may have to look on line. I'm sure you could send them back, if they didn't fit.

Yes, I was going to suggest Marker's also. They have a short in many of their ski pants. I have also gone to LLbean for some things like a down sweater--they have Petites in coats and fleece. Most of their things are pretty well made, they have a Guide coat that looks awesome.

Many Spyder pants and jackets run short--and Obeymeyer clothing is also on the short side. I am 5'3", so I am taller, but I have two pairs of Spyder pants. Bogner also has pants in short, but not the coats. I guess that I would look at Spyder kids--they have a line for racer kids that is really excellant stuff--I have gotton lots of technical turtlenecks in children's sizes that fit really well.

Oh, yes, Descente small clothing is pretty short--I think that they are proportional, so a 4 or 6 would be the right length for you.

I used to work in a ski shop, so I do know some brands. I looked at some Fate clothing this year and it also looks short. I agree that if you want to try some things, you can always send them back--you don't want to spend the first day trying on clothing.

I am about the same size as you. I also suggest Marker pants. I have them in a size 4. They were marked petite, but I think sometimes they are also marked short. My ski shop had some jackets in this year marked petite - I think they were Obermeyer. My two favorite jackets are 4's, not petite, one from Marker and on from Obermeyer. I have very short arms and torso, so I am very picky about fit. Girls ski jackets fit, but don't have the features I want, but pants are okay.

Salomon makes some nice stuff in small sizes. The xs fits me pretty well, I'm the same size as you, and the pants length is right on. This summer I found a size 2 spyder jacket! Marker and other brands run to big for me.

Isis products are excellent, fit extremely well, and they have a number of items in Petite. I'm 5'2" and their regular pants are just a bit long, so I'd think the petites would fit you nicely. Their web site, www.isisforwomen.com, doesn't have a specific petite section, so you need to click on each item for the sizes available--I know the "Lucy" pant comes in petite, and I hear now the "Electra" (I have these--love them!) does as well. The terrific thing about the company is that is was started by, is run by, and is only for women!

Do any of their things come in larger sizes (like bigger than 14)???

The short (ha!) answer is......yes, but it varies from item to item. For the pants and coats it may also be worthwhile to consider a size smaller than what you normally wear, as they are not cut skimpy at all. They're made for movement and layering--real-world skiing for a change.

And while I may be below average in height, I am towering in spirit!! :D
